Chris, running a great race. He was toward the back the whole race, but he was conserving his steps by always running on the inside. In the last 100m he moved up on the inside and would have won the race except for the guy who was boxing him in. Finished 3rd in his heat and moves on to the final. Alan Webb might not have qualified. His time was 3:41.8.

Alan Webb did qualify on time, as did Rob Myers of the US, putting the US in the unique position as the only nation with three in the semis. A long time since the US did this (if ever). Chris was the only one to qualify automatically. The other Americans had to wait for the time qualifier.

Great interview with Chris (before he got his A standard). Apparently, he will stay in DC and be coached by Pat and Julie; not sure what Julie's leaving GU means. Went pro, because of his progression and where he wanted to be. Probably influenced by Alan Webb. www.mensracing.com/athletes/interviews/2005/chrislukezic.html

I particularly like the part about opening a coffee shop so he doesn't have to use his info technology degree. Good decision. Also, the self-flagellation for only running 25-45 miles a week in high school has made me depressed and now I need to go to the gym! Thanks Chris.
He says he thinks he has low 3:34 in his legs right now. That's the sort of run that competes in World Championships, so I hope he can pull it out. Chris is a good guy, and now having established himself as one of the elite american milers, it's hard to fault him for turning pro.
Nevada, heard anything about Jesse O'Connell? I'm thinking he must be injured.

NYC, LOL!
Chris was the FIRST non-qualifier today. They took five from each of the two heats and the two fastest times (that were not in those first five). Chris had the third fastest, but ran a good time.
I have heard nothing about Jesse, and not for lack of trying. He is just off the radar. I agree he must be hurt or he would have been in Helsinki too (IMHO).

The full results of Chris's heat. His sometimes training partner finished 2nd:

Good race by Chris, even though he missed the final. I think he hung at the back a little too long this time. Looking at his race and Webb, it doesn't seem that he's that far behind Webb in terms of capability--he might have a better kick. Some added strength should put him into an elite world class category(think the college XC season would have helped in this regard!) I'm also looking fwd to see what he can do at 800m now.

Yes, reformation, a bit of strength training is exactly what he needs. Look at Webb - he set the American 2-mile record this year and ran a 13:30 5000m, while Chris's PR in the 5000 is a bit over 14:00. I think Chris has a better kick than Webb, but Webb is stronger now.
In the semis it seemed as if Chris was last, but had gotten up to 6th in the last 50m, but two guys passed him then. If he had held them off, he would have been in the finals.

Found this quote from Chris after the semis:
Chris Lukezic, Men's 1500 meters
I got out there, the last two felt pretty good. I think maybe I went
about 10 meters too early. I got a little impatient. I felt good
heading into the last three. Maybe it was a lack of confidence I
couldn't hold it from that far out. Coming into the last 100 I
thought I had it when I finished. I counted 7 guys in front of me so
I missed it by a spot. I'm pretty bummed. I felt like I was having
a good race, I felt like I'd make it into the final, but it just
didn't happen.

One of the guys, who Chris beat in the heat, was Daniel Komen was Kenya. The winner of the WC 1500 was Ramzi. The result of the von Damme race in Belgium tonight in the 1500m has this interesting result:
