I was out of town for a week, so I have been behind in my reporting the events. But the big relay meet of the season is always the Penn Relays and that for the Hoyas starts today. Incidentally, I went by UPenn, the site of the Relays twice this week on the Amtrak. Also, scoped out the track at UVA in Charlottesville.
The one event so far today that I have results on is the 4x100 for women. GU placed 6th in their heat with South Carolina winning in one of the best times of the day. Berkeley had the best in another heat. More results as they come available.

A first for the Hoyas in the 4x400m relay. Unfortunately, this was not one of the faster heats. For example, Texas won their heat in 3:35.

Nevada, I wonder if this is Duke's first win in a major relay at Penn.---Drives me crazy to see Duke overtake GU in one of GU's taditional power sports, especially one where Duke has always been pretty weak

Found the splits, great 1600 leg for a Freshman by maggie infeld + strong 400 keg by K. ferguson. 800 leg was weak, 1200 leg by E maloy was ok, but glad to see her running well again. Given the fact that the lineup was 2 sophs, frosh, junior team should be much better next yr.

What was the 800m split? We have about four women, who go 2:10 or better, but of course that included Maggie. Yes, it is good to see Elizabeth running again. I agree with you about Duke.
In the 5000m men's champs Charlie Millioen placed 17th in 14:22.34 and Steve Meinelt finished 20th in 14:22.89.

In what was the premier race of the Penn Relays (in my opinion) Georgetown men finished 4th in the distance medley relay behind Michigan (mostly foreign collegians), Arkansas, and my other alma mater Cornell (I couldn't believe that Cornell could beat GU in the DMR). The Hoyas held off Villanova to claim bragging rights in the Big East (by 0.05 seconds) as Chris Lukezic ran down Nova and about five other teams on the last leg. I think GU was about 10th going into the mile leg. Chris had the second fastest mile (1600m?) split with his 3:57.1 behind Nick Wills of Michigan and New Zealand. I was a bit disappointed in Chris Bonner's time on the 400m leg, as he is regularly in the 47 s range. Tommy Manning may have taken it out too fast, but he was in the mix.

Hatch of Arkansas completed closing the gap on Andrew Ellerton in the 800. Michigan still in 1st at the last pass, with TCU in 3rd. Ahmed & Willis ran neck and neck, with a huge lead on 3rd place. Willis pulled away effortlessly to win in 9:22, Arkansas 2nd in 9:28.

Interesting result in the Corporate Distance Medley Relay:

Steve Holman, as most of you may know, is a grad of GU, who was #1 ranked miler in the US for a number of years. With Steve and Tom Parlapiano, recent grad of Villanova, I don't know how Vanguard lost. There were 20 other teams in the results.

Michigan set a collegiate record in the 4x1 mile relay. The Hoyas did not have their best team (no Chris Lukezic, no Tommy Manning - resting up for the 4x800 later today), but they did decently, especially Rod Koborsi's 4:03.5 leg.

You might have seen this on TV today. In the women's mile, GU alumna Treniere Clement bidded her time running just behind Tiffany McWilliams, who is a notorious front runner and won the NCAA 1500m last year with Treniere coming in 2nd. Treniere reversed the tables sprinting away from Tiffany on the last lap and winning by 3 seconds wtih the 3rd place finisher another 6 seconds back.

In the event that the Hoyas won last year in about 7:16 this year's edition of the 4x800 m relay team finished 10th. The winning time was by Michigan at 7:22, and the Hoyas recorded a 7:32 time. The conditions were pretty bad as it was raining pretty hard. The very bright spot was Chris Lukezic's anchor leg of 1:46.6, which was the fastest of the relay. We could have used Courtney Jaworski on 4th place Penn, who transferred from GU. And, oh yes, Cornell beat us again.

Chris Lukezic was a hit with those that frequent the track and field talk boards with his performances at Penn (3:57.1/1:46.6). An example:
I agree, Lukezic is a young "beast" on the prowl. Didn't someone say Debole will be back at Gtwn this year? THey do need some more, maybe if Manning(1:50.05/3:47?) is back next yr with Debole and who knows who they can get to finish that out and become more of a factor.
I see 1:46low/3:36high maybe...like u guys stated he has already ran 1:47x/3:39x.

I'm still trying to figure out what our 4x800 m relay time means. I only have Chris Lukezic's split at 1:46.6, and the team was 7:32.73 (Chris Bonner , Tommy Manning , Stanley Lagrenade , Chris Lukezic (1:46.6)). That means that the others averaged 1:55.37. Since all of the others are capable of 1:51 or better, I am wondering what happened. That day was rainy, so perhaps they dropped the baton. If not, Chris's leg is all the more amazing, especially considering the conditions.
