This weekend is the IC4A track and field meet in Boston (March 5,6). The Alex Wilson meet at Notre Dame on March 4,5 is also on the schedule. We shall see who goes where.

It seems as if our BE scholar-athlete of the year, Nicole Lee, will be the only entry in the Alex Wilson meet at Notre Dame. The rest of the team should be at the IC4A/ECAC meet in Boston. The reason why Nicole is at the Alex Wilson meet is that she is presently 28th on the list in the 5000m this year. The NCAA meet probably has the top 20, so she is obviously trying to qualify for this meet. Her time was 16:27, and she will have to run about 10 seconds faster to be in the top 15.

Nicole was a scratch at the Wilson meet. Maybe she will be at the ECAC meet.

After the first day of the IC4A meet, we stand 2nd with 13 pts. to Manhattan's 19 pts. All our points were picked up in the 3000m, as most of the other running events were trials. In the 3000m Chris Esselborn ran a very good race to finish 2nd (and 8 pts) in 8:15.33; Brian Dalpiaz and Charlie Millioen must have put on quite a show for 6th and 7th place, as Brian beat Charlie by 0.02 s with 8:18.01 for 3 pts. Charlie's 8:18.03 got him 2 pts. Michael Banks, the frosh, finished 11th in 8:20.9 We did not have much depth on the first day except in the 3000m. There were one or two that seemed to be missing (especially Stanley Lagrenade). In the heats: 400m 2. Chris Bonner 47.61 (qualified) Mile 2. Tommy Manning 4:10.06 Q 800m 11. Nat Glackin 1:53.06 1000m 4. Neil Grosscup 2:25.44 Q 4x800 13. GU 7:41.8 DMR 9. GU 10:01.94 (just barely qualifying) Not having Chris Lukezic (and probably Stanley Lagrenade) at this meet hurt us in the relays and chances for big points on the 2nd day. The events are so distributed between a lot of schools that we could have done well if we have the above two. We still have the potential for scoring some good points. The 5000m should have Rod Koborsi and Fleet Hower, who should do well. However, Liberty has the freshman, Josh McDougal, who won the 3000m today by 20 seconds, and he will probably be doubling in the 5000m. Should be a good race between him and Rod.

The Hoyas finished 6th in the IC4A meet. As they were missing some of their top runners, I guess this was a good effort.
The summaries:
400 5. Chris Bonner 47.81 (4 pts)
Mile 5. Tommy Manning 4:07.4 (4)
1000m 2. Neil Grosscup 2:24.56 (great effort by Neil)
5000m 6. Fleet Hower 14:31.19.3
DMR DNF Georgetown (Grosscup, Bonner, Glacking, Manning)

Can't imagine that the women were too happy with the performances as they were easily beaten at the middle distances by Duke + Cornell

Cornell, I could excuse (my other alma mater ), but to have Duke dominate them in the MD is hard to take. I assume the 4x800 team won, but I didn't see the final results. Also, I saw no results for the pole vault, as Leilani Green was a possible scorer.

What! That stinks. The Hoyas had a seven second advantage in the prelims. Still haven't seen the complete results.

I was wrong (misread the prelims); the Hoyas had a one sec advantage over Duke in the qualifying round.
