Guys, I am sure this has been brought up before, but is there any rumors about Georgetown moving up to D-1A? Thanks.

Guys, I am sure this has been brought up before, but is there any rumors about Georgetown moving up to D-1A? Thanks. It will stay in I-AA. The Ivy/Patriot football model fits a school of Georgetown's smaller size, academics, and fan base.

Plus, our winless conference season would indicate that we are more than ready for the leap to 1A.

0-11? That sucks. I thought you had an okay AA program. Did the Big East ask you guys to maybe move up? What about Villanova? I heard they asked both of you to move up.

Georgetown is not 0-11, it finished 3-8.
The four Big East I-AA teams at the time (Villanova, Georgetown, Connecticut, St. John's) had an option to upgrade but the cost of Big East-level facilities was prohibitive for all but a state sponsored school like UConn.
The only reason UConn got the stadium was after the N.E. Patriots toyed with the Connecticut legislature about moving to Hartford, the Governor leveraged the former plans for a Patriots stadium in East Hartford into what is now Rentschler Field. Without it, UConn would still be in the A-10.

I live in Denton, you're in Dallas?
That's funny about UCONN. Kinda wish Seton Hall had a football team.

I think moving up to 1-A makes sense.
We could build a "state of the art" facility on the roof of Leavey, this would make sense, because Marriot could run it and the concession stands.
We could pressure Providence and Seton Hall to add football as well, I could see a future ESPN2 Thanksgiving Day Game with the Hoyas playing the Friars, pitting the Jesuits against the Dominicans for bragging rights in priories across the country.
Allen Iverson could perhaps return to the Hilltop, earn his degree and play quarterback, Tom O'Brien, the current BC coach maintains the The Answer was a better high school football prospect than Michael Vick.
There are endless possibilities for this idea, a Catholic Football Conference featuring Notre Dame, Boston College (after they get bounced from the ACC), GU, PC, Seton Hall, and Catholic University....I'm sure it would be a lock for a BCS bid.
I hope Allen Brick in his interim role will form a fact finding committee to investigae this idea further. Let's bring Big Time Football to the Hilltop.

Haha, great post. I'd like to see that facility on top of Leavey, hahahaha ;D.

I think it would be more appropriate to enter an agreement to have us rent out RFK Stadium for thousands of dollars per game. If we can fill up the student section in the MCI, which we did against Temple, surely we can fill up and entire endzone in RFK.
With the outpouring of support for GU athletics from the DC community, it should be no trouble to turn out 35,000 for a Saturday afternoon of tailgating and football.

Sure, I-A is a possibility. The only things missing are money, facilities, space to build facilities, and the support of the administration. Hmmm, which problem do we tackle first?
