In the qualifier meet for the NCAA championship race at Indiana State on Nov. 22, the Hoyas will attempt to qualify automatically by finishing one or two at Penn State on Saturday, Nov. 13. The Hoyas are the favorites in the Mid-Atlantic region. If they fall short they should be picked as an at-large team, because of their seventh place ranking in the nation and having defeated teams that ultimately will make the big dance. Since guhoyas.com will be down until Sunday evening, I will try to get the results out as soon as possible on Saturday.
For the women this regional meet is crucial and if the team is healthy they might sneak in by a top two finish. But their battle will be tougher than the men's this year.

Good news/bad news. The good news is that the men won with a 1-2 finish; the bad news is that the women finished 4th and without an automatic qualifier might not be going to the NCAA championship race on Nov. 22.
The women were led by Nicole Lee as usual. The scoring: 3. Nicole Lee 20:52 9. Maggie Infeld 21:22 23. Erin Henry 22:03 36. Melissa Grelli 22:27 41. Jodee Adams-Moore 22:34 46. Jennie Funk 22:41 65. Sabine Knothe 23:07. The top five totalled 112 points. WVa won the race kicking our butts again (see Jeoparpy, college division on Friday, $13,000 - $0).
The men were again led by Rod Koborsi, who after leading the BE race finishing third, won this race with Chris Lukezic right behind. Both beat Bobby Curtis from Villanova, who won the BE race. The race was contested over 10K.
1. Rob Koborsi 30:24 2. Chris Lukezic 30:31 7. Fleet Hower 30:42 (back from some sub-par performances) 15. Steve Meinelt 31:00 (continuing his fine running) 24. Chris Esselborn 31:24 43. Brian Dalpiaz 32:10 44. Michael Banks 32:12
The Hoyas' 49 points beat American, who finished 2nd, a sweep for the DC teams. This is an automatic bid for the Hoyas for the NCAA champs.

The at-large teams were selected for the NCAA XC race on Nov. 22 in Indiana. For the first time in at least 16 years the Georgetown women are not going. However, two of the team's runners were selected as individual at-large runners, Nicole Lee and freshman Maggie Infeld, who finished 3rd and 9th, respectively, at the regionals. The men are automatically in and are hoping for a top 5 finish.

Dan Nunn, who had been the best frosh during the early part of the season, did not run at Regionals, which leads me to believe he has been injured. Michael Banks, another freshman, took his place at Regionals.

People on track talkboards are talking about the quick demise of the Hoya women. I think it is a matter of injuries, but the lack of track facilities is probably hurting recruiting.

I'm glad someone else saw that Jeopardy. A very disappointing performance by the Hoyas. The WVU girl was really annoying me with her unnatural perkiness and tendency to shout out the answers. The Hoya was probably the second best player on the show, but he kept ringing in with (to be brutaly honest) dumb responses. For example, the process by which trees transport water from their roots to their branches is definitively not "chutes." To be fair, the girl guess "straws," which isn't much better. I would have rung in "ladders" just for sheer entertainment value.
We can't all be Ken Jennings (who I initially hated, then liked, and now wish would retire). But it's a sad day when a Georgetown student gets beaten by someone with any connection to West Virginia University. Particularly one with an ambition of attending "clown college." I could make a snide joke here about WVU, but it's too obvious. You can probably imagine where I'm heading with this.

Yes, my son was watching Jeopardy, and he said this student was really annoying, so I had to go watch. When I saw the GU student, I really had to root against the annoying young lady. I expected more from the GU guy. I was shouting prime meridian to him at the end. How humiliating to be beaten by a mountaineer.

Nevada, I think it's hard to say what the future holds for the women. They lose their top runner this yr , but M. Infeld looks like a potential star. If Elizabeth maloy comes back, i would guess that they at least show slight improvement and at least make the ncaa's, if she doesn't barring another Infeld level recruit, they will probably be shut out again. I guess its positive that we have a lot of freshman competing, but their times seem to be way back of the lead runners, so its hard to say how likely it is that they can improve enough in a year to make GTWN a top 10 program agin.

Although the women did not get picked for the NCAA XC championship race, which supposedly picks the top two in the regions (9 regions) and the next best 13 teams for a total of 31 teams, the Hoyas were ranked 29th this week. It would seem that with that ranking they would have been one of the 13 teams picked, but it is a convoluted method that determines those 13. Essentially, if you have beaten teams during the year that have automatically made the NCAAs, you gain points, and they have an iterative formula from there, various teams knocking out other teams. This didn't work in GU's favor.
