Big win for the Women's soccer team and they appear to be picking up their play big time. I remember an earlier post questioning the direction of the program but this certainly looks like a step in the right direction. This was their final regular season game and gave them a .500 record in Big East play as well as overall. The Hoyas also spoiled #16 West Virginia's senior day. Shocking stat of the day: The Hoyas were outshot 26-2 by WVU, how they managed to win considering that I have no idea. Huge win for the Women's soccer team! story on guhoyas.com www.guhoyas.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/102404aaa.html

Congratulations to the women's soccer team on their great win.
"Shocking stat of the day: The Hoyas were outshot 26-2 by WVU, how they managed to win considering that I have no idea." As W.C. Fields would say "Ah, a game of chance." ;D

Impressive close to the regular season by the ladies, winning their last four overall and three in the Big East, and what appears to be clinching a spot in the BE playoffs (as the top eight teams get in, and they're sitting in seventh, waiting for the rest of the teams to play out their strings).

I could say the 26-2 shot margin was an instance of "homer" scorekeepers, but more than that, I think it's just the interpretation of "shot".
According to the NCAA rulebook, a "shot" is a play that can result in one of five outcomes:
1. a goal 2. a save 3. being blocked by a defender 4. hitting a post or cross bar 5. missing the net wide or high
I know this because I've worked at a few soccer games and there is always discussion about whether what just happened was a "shot on goal", "just a shot", or "no shot at all". A shot on goal results in either a goal or a save. Looking at the GUHoyas.com article, our keeper had 5 saves, so it can be assumed that WVU had 5 shots actually on goal, and since the WVU keeper had 0 saves, Georgetown apparently converted on its only SOG.

Thanks for enlightening us with that high level of detail Joe, its good to know.
Either way it seems like a huge achievement to win when you only attempt 2 shots. Just the fact that WVU tried to shoot in some way around 26 times and we only got 2 tries and made 1 is rather interesting and surprising to me.
Either way it was a huge win and its great to see the women finish strong like this, especially since I know a number of them quite well.

Yeah, solid win for the women's soccer team. I worked the Friday game where they dominated a crappy Seton Hall team 2-0, and they looked pretty impressive from start to finish. Sara Jordan is one player in particular that is a freshman that to me looked like she played with the poise and maturity of a senior.
