The "old" track on Kehoe field was one of the main factors that led to the extensive repairs they've done on Yates over the last year... buckling between the track and the artificial turf caused $$$$ in water damage over the last several years in Yates.

In terms of the Ellington project and future projects, the Ellington track is a term-lease, and is not seen as a long-term solution for GU track and field, but as an interim practice facility.
There has been (though I haven't heard anything about it in the last couple of years) a proposal to build a track/soccer facility on what is now North Kehoe (currently used by soccer and women's lax). It was a cool plan, but the problem is where it lies on the priority list...
-- After Boathouse -- After MSF -- roughly contiguous with convocation center (firmly in the "idea" phase).

Agree, the track-soccer facility on North Kehoe seemed to make a ton of sense, i.e., supporting programs that perform at an elite level-it seems to have been put on the back burner. It was mentioned in a fund raising pitch to me a few years ago, and then I never heard about it again.
Digioia is speaking in NYC tomorrow-I will try to ask him about it--hopefuuly GU will put more of its resources into activities both athletic and academic that are truly world class rather than spreading the cash around to a range of both marginal and elite programs

Reformation, if Bill Reynolds is with Jack tomorrow, try to talk to him about this too. Bill is Associate VP, Alumni Relations & Annual Fund and a big Hoya track fan. We had a nice chat about the track team, when he was out in Las Vegas this spring.
DFW, I guess I shouldn't have used the term state of the art. It was a nice track (or at least looked like one), but, as you said, didn't have the field facilities.

sounds like the athletic department was really STUPID in putting the former track on top of yates, they should have figured out where the water would drain to. great planning. as said earlier, they should figure something out with north kehoe and put a state of the art track with field facilities in there. soccer and lax could then play on the msf field once it is done.
for a school with such a stellar track team, it is pathetic that we do not have even marginal facilities for them. we need so many things, but WE NEED A TRACK!!

This is not an excuse, but I believe the Yates/Kehoe project was one of the first of its kind in the country, so while they could have, and probably should have, done better design and engineering work, it's very possible they didn't have many existing models to learn from.
