Georgetown sent a contingent of distance runners out to California to run the in Stanford Invitational. The first results are from the women's 5000m, in which Colleen Kelly finished 9th (5th collegian) in 16:30.68 and Amanda Pape finished 17th in 16:47.69. There were a total of 95 runners in the various heats of the 5000m. The Georgetown placings were overall. We have entries in the men's 5000m and both the women's and men's 10000m.

The men's 5000m had two Hoyas, soph Chris Esselborn at 14:47.84 in 93th place (of 128) and freshman Brian Dalpiaz at 14:52.31 in 104th place.

A little late getting the 10,000m race results. Georgetown had three or four athletes entered, but it seems as if only one ran, Fleet Hower, who ran a 30:26.10 for 53rd place.

I'd still go with Rich Kenah as the best 800m runner Coach Gags has coached. Hoya alum Bryan Woodward, who is still coached by Gags, has better times than Stember also, but has had a rough past two years.

Nevada,
Thanks for the link to the article on Michael Stember. It's always great to read some quotes from Coach Gagliano.
I would agree with your assessment on Gag's best 800 runners ever, Kenah did not have Woodward's natural ability, but more than made up for it with his determination and work ethic.
I remember Rich coming off the turn in Atlanta (96) looking like he had the Olympic Team wrapped up, only to tie up the last 20 meters or so, it was heartbreaking. Four years later though it was sweet to see him and Brian both make it.
The Farm Team has been a wonderful opportunity for Coach Gag to continue doing what he does best, but I still think the best athletes that he'll ever coach will be the ones that wore the blue and gray.
I hope the University gets off its butt and makes progress in planning and building of the Gagliano Track. It's a shame that they had that wonderful party for him in 2001, unveiled the plans and have made no mention of it sense.
With the search for the next basketball coach there's a lot of chatter on the other boards about the legacy of JT at Georgetown, the legacy of Coach Gag is just as great but perhaps under appreciated.

Kenah's medal at the world's far overshadows the others accomplishments + I think that he is the only one of these runners to go sub 1:44(I think)

Bardo, you should really thank DFW for the link, as I thank him too now. You are right about Rich having that determination. I too felt so bad for him in the OT in which he came in 4th, but I have a couple of his races on tape, including his bronze at the World's and his 2000 OT, where he and Byran made the team. I keep playing those tapes over and over. I have communicated with Rich in the past via email, and he is such a nice guy. Reformation, you are right, Rich has at least one 1:43.xx to his credit and Bryan a 1:44.xx. I don't think Stember has broken 1:45 (if he has that).

Nevada, are we still recruiting aggressively for 800m talent. It seems as if most of the new recruoits are for longer distances.

Well, we had a couple of good 800m runners, who were freshmen last year, including Chris Lukezic (more of a miler, but did a 1:49.8 in HS on the record setting DMR or 4x800 HS record), Stanley Legrande (400/800), and Courtney Jaworski (1:50 in HS). Unfortunately, I found that Courtney transferred to the U Penn this year. I don't know what happened? In the early recruiting period of this year, no MD runners, but we will see who signs during the regular signing period in a couple of weeks.
