The NCAA T&F meet will be held this weekend (at Arkansas, I believe). The Hoyas will be represented in three events on the women's side and three events on the men's side.
For the women Treniere Clement is represented in all three events - mile, 3000m, and the distance medley relay team. She came in at the 6th fastest mile time and the 18th fastest 3000m time. The DMR team was ranked 3rd.
For the men Chris Lukezic, normally a miler, made the list at the 17th spot for the 3000m. Rod Koborsi has the 5th fastest 5000m time going into the meet, and the DMR team has the 4th fastest time. Jesse O'Connell did not have a fast enough 800m time, although he has the fastest 1000m in the nation for a collegian. He will run the DMR.

Good Luck to the Hoyas in Arkansas.
When you posted this weekend that the Hoya Men were not focusing on the the IC4A's because they had the NCAA in their sights I was hopeful that we'd have more qualifiers going on to Arkansas...this is not the case.
The DMR has an excellent chance at winning the event.
I think it's important to point out to the the track novices out there that although Jessie O'Connell does have the fastest 1000 meter time in the nation he is not running the 1000 because it's not an event contested at the National Meet.
I enjoy and appreciate your updates of Hoya Track and Field, they're much better than what you'd find on GUHoyas.com.

That's what I strive for, Bardo, to outdo guhoyas.com, because I have had to rely on it in the past, and the information either was late coming or incomplete. I'm glad that you enjoy the updates.
Good point about Jesse and the 1000m. If they had it contested at the nationals, I think he would have been one of the favorites. I'm still wondering, why he didn't try to get a qualifying 800m time at ND last weekend. Maybe the Hoyas want to try to put most of their eggs in one basket to try to win the DMR. This should be a highly competitive event with some good times. I think they were arguing that Stanford had the best chance of winning, but I don't think Stanford was one of the teams that made it. But besides Stanford, there are some other strong teams out there. Should be fun.
I was surprised that we sacrified our chances for a top five placing at the IC4A to get one person qualified at ND. If I am not mistaken, the DMR team was already qualified, but I guess the plan was to race them hard the week before the NCAAs, so that they could be ready to go.

I believe the lineup that they will use for the DMR at the NCAAs will probably be:
1200m - Jesse O'Connell 400m - James Graham 800m- Ezra Richards 1600m - Chris Lukezic
Too bad Ali Najjar is either sitting this season out or doesn't have any more indoor qualification. I think his replacing Ezra makes us very hard to beat.
We did not do much recruiting during the early signing period. We did pick up two distance women, one from California (Melissa Grelli , if I remember correctly) and Carolyn Yates from RI. We just picked up one distance guy, Justin Scheid from NJ (Sparta).

I have been hearing some talk about Chris Bonner running the 400m instead of James Graham. Chris ran well at the IC4As, so we will have to wait to see the final lineup for the DMR. Track fans are projecting the men's DMR to be in the top 3. That would be great, but there are very good teams entered. It is going to be one of the premier events of the meet.

Okay, I'm still in town. Before I go, I want to give the results from Friday. In the 5000m Rod Koborsi finished 11th in 14:10.51; Alistair Cragg of Arkansas won the race in 13:39.63. Treniere Clement ran in the first heat of the mile and she finished 2nd, qualifying for the finals in the second best time. The women's DMR team finished 8th with a time of 11:14.37. Sabine Knothe, Monica Hargrove, Maura McCusker, and Colleen Kelly ran for the team. Since Treniere was held out (because she is running three other races this weekend), the Hoyas finished lower than their potential. They scored one point for their efforts. The men DMR faired better with a four place finish in 9:33.21, just behind Villanova. Michigan won the race i6n 9:27.77. (Warning: do not be fooled by the Guhoyas.com site, which has the Hoyas finishing 3rd with a time of 9:32.86; that is Villanova's time and placing.) The Hoyas scored 5 points for their finish. Currently, the men stand 21st and the women 31st.

Final summary of the NCAA meet. Chris Lukezic finished 12th in the 3000m in 8:16.23. I was a little disappointed, since Chris has run an 8:00 3000 m race; however, this race seemed tactical. Since Chris has great speed, he should have done well in a kickers' race. Chris has been running well, since last year through indoor and outdoor track, XC, and indoor track, so maybe he was fatigued. So the men scored 5 points for a tie for 34th.
The women had the iron women Treniere Clement, who exceeded all my expectations with a 3rd in the mile and a 4th in the 3000m. Her time in the mile was 4:35.16, third behind Tiffany McWilliams, who was the hottest runner last outdoor season, and J. Nilsson, who both got 4:32 marks. The 4th place finisher was 4:39, so Treniere ended up runnning alone at the end. In the 3000m she ran 9:11.44 for 5th. Kim Smith of Providence (and New Zealand) won the race going away. With Treniere's 11 points and the 1 point for the DMR, GU finished 18th place with their 12 points. Congratulations to the Hoyas.
