Both the IC4A (men) and ECAC(women) track and field meets will be held in Boston this weekend (Sat. and Sun.). The IC4A meet is at the BU track, while the ECAC meet will be at the Reggie Lewis track. Georgetown men were third last year behind Penn State and Seton Hall.

Well, it doesn't look as if the men will be making a run at the IC4A title or even coming in top 5, as they are setting their sights a little higher, for the NCAA meet coming up. Consequently, they sent some of their best runners to Notre Dame to run at the Alex Wilson (last chance) Meet. Since there is usually good competition at this meet, there are chances to get the automatic qualifier for the NCAA meet. And GU did indeed come up with two qualifiers in two races. Rob Koborsi was 2nd and the first collegian in the 5000m with an automatic NCAA qualifier time of 13:52.07. The Distance Medley relay team with Jesse O'Connell, Ezra Richards, James Graham, and Chris Lukezic finished 2nd to Minnesota in an auto qualifying time of 9:32.65. Dan Tebbano ran the mile in 4:08.57 for 17th, Ezra Richards ran 1:51.03 for 9th in the 800m, and James Graham was 6th in the 400m in 48.08.

Back at the ranch, i.e.,IC4As in Boston, the rest of the men's team was in a tie for 12th after the first day with 5 points. The five points came in the 3000m with freshman Brian Dalpiaz running 8:16.59 for 5th. In qualifying heat, Chris Bonner qualified for the final running 47.60. In the mile Tommy Manning finished 10th to qualify with 4:11.15. Matt Debole, another freshman, did not qualify in the mile with his 4:12.88. In the 800m Nat Glackin ran 1:52.46, finishing 11th and not qualifying. In the 1000m Rasheed Thompson (yet another frosh) ran 2:30.69, finishing 15th and out of the qualifying. Two relay teams ran. The 4x800m team ran 7:56.90, finishing 21st and not qualifying, but the DMR team ran 9:55.44 to finish 4th and qualify. Note from the previous post the DMR "A" team ran 9:32 to finish 2nd at the Alex Wilson meet, so we are very deep in this event.

The women's result were late coming. So here is the scoop on the first day results at the ECAC meet in Boston. The bad news is that the Hoyas have yet to score. The good news is that they have quite a few qualifers for Sunday's finals. Leading the way in qualifying in the mile are Colleen Kelly and Elizabeth Maloy, who went 1-2 in their heat in qualifying in 4:53.58 and 4:53.86, respectively. Kim Malcolm ran a 5:08.47, but did not qualify. In the 400m, Monica Hargrove had the second fastest qualifying time in 54.22, which is a provisional qualifier for the NCAAs. Jayne Penn ran a 1:15.95 in the 500, but didn't move on. In the 800m Maura McCusker won her heat in 2:12.21 for qualify. Meghan O'Neill ran 4th in her heat in 2:13.23 and Kelly Otstott ran 3rd in her heat in 2:14.81, but neither moved on. In the 1000m, Sabine Knothe and Rose Wetzel ran 2-3 in their heat to qualify in 2:51.37 and 2:52.77, respectively. Nana Hanson-Hall was 4th in her heat in 2:55.02.
The 4x400 relay team ran 3:52.08, but didn't qualify, but the 4x800 team did with the second fastest in 8:59.83. And Leilani Green, no heighted in the PV.

The second and final day of the IC4As saw Georgetown scoring some points to finish 16th overall with 17 points. A far cry from their 3rd place finish, but the Hoyas are looking at the bigger picture and are hoping to score some points in the NCAAs. Scorers from today include Fleet Hower, who finished 5th in the 5000m in 14:19.36 for 4 points, Chris Bonner, who finished 7th in the 400m finals with 47.75, and the DMR team, who finished 3rd in 9:48.05. Tommy Manning finished 10th in the mile final with a 4:17.04, and Teddy Presley finished 7th in his flight of the triple jump with a mark of 46'7.5"

Nevada, any word on how many athletes we have qualified for NCAAs at this point? Does the indoor season now feature Regional Championships, as XC now does?
Thanks for all of your updates!

THB, we'll know for sure tomorrow (Tues. 3/9), as the list of the NCAA qualifiers will be out. What I can definitely say right now is that Rob Koborsi has qualified in the 5000m with his great run this weekend at ND, and the men's DMR team has an automatic qualifier. Chris Lukezic had a provisional qualifier in the 3000m, so whether that holds up or not will be interesting. Also, Jesse O'Connell has the fastest collegiate time in the 1000m this year, but I am not sure they are running a 1000m or just the 800m; if just the 800m, I am not sure he can qualify with his 1000m time. I would say yes, since he would have run the 800m at Notre Dame, if he didn't. On the women's side I am pretty sure that their DMR team is qualified, and I think Treniere Clement is qualified in some event. I believe the others might have some provisional marks. No indoors is not like XC or even now the outdoors T&F meet. The only qualifying is in the marks. Stayed tuned for the rest of the news tomorrow.
You're welcome on the updates. My pleasure!
