The USA Track and Field national indoor meet is being held in Boston this weekend. A few alumni and one or two current students are entered. In the 800m prelims alum Tyrona Heath finished 3rd in her heat in 2:07.55. That was the 12th fastest time, and she didn't move on. On the men's side another story. Senior Jesse O'Connell won his heat in 1:48.74, which was the fastest qualifying time. So Jesse and five others will go for the national title.

The 800m finals at the USATF meet were held today in Boston. Jesse O'Connell finished 3rd. He was the only collegian in the race:
1 Michael Stember Nike 1:48.08 2 Derrick Peterson adidas 1:48.67 3 Jesse O'Connell unattached 1:49.19 4 Kevin Elliott Farm Team 1:49.55 5 Fred Sharpe adidas 1:49.64 6 Andrew Neugebauer Farm Team 1:52.42
As Jesse is 6'5" or 6'6", the indoor track with its tight curves is not the best venue for Jesse, although he seems to do well at it. The bball team should recruit him for rebounding and starting the fast break.

GU grad (class of 1999) Matt Kalwinsky ran a leg on the NYAC distance medley relay team. They were just nipped out by the Boston team, 9:51.57 to 9:51.70.

Jillian Reynolds won the 400 meters, not sure if she graduated from GU but had some success running for the Hoyas her freshmen and sophomore years.
Also, Jonathan Riley (won the 3000) and I'm pretty sure Michael Stember (won the 800) are currently coached by Coach Gagliano.

Thanks for the news about Jillian. I forgot that she changed her name to Clay. In fact, at the Worlds last summer in Paris, they had her name hyphenated: Reynolds-Clay. Julian Clay didn't ring a bell.
Coach Gags has a few alumni among his runners on the Farm team, including Bryan Woodward, who is a threat to make the Olympic team in the 800m, and Eric Savoth, who had qualified for the 3000m, but did not run.
