Amidst all the discussion on men's basketball, why hasn't women's basketball been able to do more at Georgetown?
Georetown has a legitimate All-American this year in Rebekkah Brunson, a capable coach in Pat Knapp, and its recruiting is generally above average. Yet, GU has one NCAA bid in its 44 year history, its all-time Big East record is below .400, attendance is close to the bottom of the league, and fundraising remains low. The 03-04 Hoyas (10-12) are about a week away from falling out of the post-season entirely.
Any thoughts on this? This is, after all, one of Georgetown's "national" programs, along with men's basketball, men's and women's track, and men's and women's lacrosse.

I can't figure the women's team out. They have Rebekkah, who is truly an All-American candidate, who must average a double double, and she has been consistent. She has a decent supporting cast, but it seems the women are performing as the men did last year with Sweets. The BE is a tough league, so it is easy to get beat up in it. The ND win was a good one for the program, but they have not followed it up with any convincing wins. I wish I knew.

I never realized that the women's program stuggled so in the Big East - I guess, in part, because I was on campus during its apparent heydey (back when they played Penn State in the Tourney), and knew a couple of players back in the day.
I would think that the women's team would stand to benefit some from a resurgent men's team (assuming THAT ever happens), perhaps in the same way that a lot of men's hoops programs appear to be able to ride the surge created by an improved D-I football program. I know it's not a perfect match in models, but I think the point of that model is that the revenue from and investment in a flagship sport can have a spillover effect on other sports throughout the department.
All the more reason to set things right with the men's program, and sooner rather than later.

Coach Knapp doesn't coach, he barks like a dog. On all fours and yells. The only thing he says is box out. BOOOOOXXXXX!! When I went to UVA and watched the UVA v Georgetown game in UHall everyone in the stands was laughing at him.

GU should reevaluate its programs to make a determination if they can become top 10 type programs. The ones that consume a lot of resources like women's bball and volleyball, but have no hope of being an elite program should have resources diverted away from them to programs that have or clearly could reach an elite status. The obvious candidates for reallocation on the - side include women's bball and voleyball. + side could be womens lax, soccer, rowing.
Losing 100k per athlete supporting programs that have no chance to be elite and have no constituency other than players and coaches, makes no sense for GU.

The only thing he says is box out. BOOOOOXXXXX!! In that case, he should come to men's games. I think I yell box out from the stands more than the team actually boxes out.
