There is a new documentary about Tom Petty. It is excellent and I would give it high marks for anyone who enjoys music in general. It is called "Running Down a Dream." It first aired a few days ago, but I am pretty sure that Sundance Channel is showing it a couple more times. If you have Tivo/DVR and enjoy Petty, I would suggest setting it up to record it. It is fairly long -- about 4 hours I think. I forget the name of the director, but he is a very well known director of documentaries.

I'm thinking about a new documentary called "Running Down a Jackass" in which we trail Brasky III to the Georgia/Florida tailgate and watch with glee as he runs over Hifi.

There is a new documentary about Florida Gator fans. It is excellent and I would give it high marks for anyone who enjoys sports in general. It is called "Deliverance." It first aired a few years ago, but I am pretty sure that any number of cable channels will be showing it a couple more times. If you have Tivo/DVR and enjoy people who wear Jorts, I would suggest setting it up to record it. It is fairly long -- about 2 hours I think. I forget the name of the director, but he is a very well known director of documentaries.

Would this world be any different if Tom Petty never existed?
Somehow, I doubt it. The same can't be said for Ian Curtis.
Bag Petty and go see Anton Corbjin's Ian Curtis/Joy Division biopic, "Control."

Would this world be any different if Tom Petty never existed? The Traveling Wilburys might have never come into existence.

Bag Petty and go see Anton Corbjin's Ian Curtis/Joy Division biopic, "Control." That's a little harsh. The thing about Petty is that none of his songs blow you away; there is no "Stairway" for him. All of his songs, though, are solid. It's really hard to dislike even one, so he's a very steady act. The overall consistency of his catalogue is what sets him apart from the crowd, and I don't think his quality should be discounted.

Are you riffing on American Psycho, or are you serious? (No offense to Petty - lots of his work is great - it's just that I can imagine Patrick Bateman saying the same thing).

It figures that some would use this as yet another sounding board to loft unwarranted barbs in my direction. But for anyone interested in his music or story, it was worth mentioning here.

Never seen it. Perhaps I should, and then I'll get back to you.

Fair enough, but even though Tom Petty is from Gainesville, I didn't bring this up to praise the city or university. For the record, the city sucks. If it wasn't for my Gators I would have ZERO interest whatsoever. In all seriousness though, for music fans, this is worth viewing. Even non-Petty fans would enjoy it.

My best friend just got the 2 disc set and he loved it as well. He said anyone from Gainesville would appreciate it but that it was a must for any real music buffs. I concur.
