Stephen Colbert running for president in South Carolina. Is this just a ratings gag/book promotional stunt? Did he watch "Man of the Year" one time too many?

I might vote for him if I were still in SC.

He's trying to see if he can get on the ballot for both parties. If he did it right I think he might be able to get quite a few votes. A while back in Canada some people started a party called the Rhinoceros Party. They were a complete joke (policies included repealing the law of gravity and tearing down the Rocky Mountains), but they got quite a few votes just because people were so fed up with the major parties. They never won any seats, but in a few uncompetetive districts they finished 2nd. Their official party leader was a rhino from a zoo in Quebec. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhino_PartyIf Colbert entered himself as an independent for the '08 election I think he could get a good number of votes. He might be able to finish 3rd in the popular vote, and he'd certainly lighten the mood of the race.
