The wife and I will be in Portland, Oregon next week for a few days. Anyone have any suggestions on things to do or places to eat?

what are you looking to do?
Portland is a great beer town, if you want suggestions on breweries (of which there are many!) or the great "college of brew knowledge" tour i can look up the details from when i visited and pass them along.
lots of good bars & clubs in the downtown area.
they seem to have a lot of festivals and fairs during the year, i would suggest checking to see if any are going on when you are there.
i suggest taking the public transit from the airport since it is cheap, convenient and frequent as opposed to taking a far more expensive cab ride.

Mostly need things to do during the day while our hosts are stuck working Any restaurants or brewpubs would be helpful. We're going to rent a car since we're staying over in Hillsboro, want to explore outside the city a little, and fly out at 6 in the morning.

Beer, beer and beer.
There's apparently a really neat pub there that I missed made out of a church or something like that -- McBricks knows the name.

Don't know of any breweries specifically (never really had any reason to read up on that sort of thing, not for a couple years anyway) but I would recommend any of the McMenamin's restaurants/bars in the Portland area. It's a great chain of hotels/theaters/restaurants. Edgefield (Troutdale, OR, just southeast of Portland) and Hotel Oregon come to mind off the top of my head. If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know, but I generally consider most of Portland and Oregon in general to be the ugly stepsister of the West Coast.
