They don't sound so confident over at the bone yard...seems like they are a bit dispondent. Refer to themselves as a very young team and acknowledge the weakness of their backcourt.

I think if we can bulk up and play strong defense, and our gaurd play is what I know it can be, then we should have a good shot at a 2-0 record.
When we played Illinois, it really was only the last 5 minutes or so of the 1st half, and the first 4-5 minutes of the second half, that gave us the point problem.
We cannot allow any major runs...

I think the tougher early schedule has already paid unexpectedly early dividends. It is important to remember that most of us thought that this two game road trip would end up 0-2 - so 1-1 is still pretty good. I think that if we can play defense similar to pit and keep UCONN under 70 then we stand a very good shot of winning.
GU wins. 68-66

If we get another good start we should be in good shape even if we start losing points late in the 1st and the beginning of the 2nd because our guards should outplay theirs. 2 things that could greatly help victory: 1.A strong press which could work really well against their young guards 2. A good rebounding effort. We need to keep within 10 rebounds of them and mostly hold them off from offensive rebounds(Roy's turn to step up after his dissapointing game against Pitt)

Looks like Cam is channeling the late, great Big Boss Man.
I thought we would lose by 12-15 to Pitt, and was, of course, thrilled to be wrong. But as well as we played against Pitt, I don't think we are experienced enough in the offense to play that way on a consistent basis. We'll have highs we don't expect (like Pitt and Clemson) and lows we don't anticipate. But unlike last year, at least there WILL BE highs. And you know what? The fact that we can even conceive of the possibility of beating the defending national champion is another high.
UConn 74 GU 65.

I think our best chance on defense is to zone them to death and make their sub par guards beat us. On offense we need to shoot well because I dont see Jeff or Roy scoring much in the paint. Our most glaring weakness on defense I think is other teams breaking down our guards with dribble penetration, forcing our frontline to adjust. Luckily, this shouldnt be a huge problem against UConn. Rather, if we want to win we need everyone crashing the boards, especially guys like DJ. If UConn plays as sloppily as they played against BC we have real shot. Their entry passes were terrible all game long. Boone and Villenueva will get their 10-15 on putbacks.. but if we double those guys when they get the ball inside and look to pick off the entry pass I think we have a good chance.
Unfortunately I think we may be on a honeymoon and they will be angry, so GU 68 - UConn 74. Im afraid we trail by around 10 the whole game, but make a push in the end that turns out to be not enough.

Anybody feel like making a prediction? Here are some "objective" looks at the game. Pomeroy: GU #65, UConn #43: prediction GU +1 Sagarin: GU #66 (80.46), UConn #35 (83.83): prediction GU +.57 RPI: GU #65, UConn #59 NodaK: GU #1, UConn#329: prediction GU -7 (75-68) I'm not familiar with Pomeroy. Who is he? And how do you derive the point spread from Sagarin ratings?

With a sense of cautious optimism, but yet the reality that we are a young team without a deep bench, still adjusting to a new coach and new system, I predict that we are only able to beat UConn by single digits.
Behind Cook's second consecutive strong shooting game, another solid statement game by Bowman, and the first Green-esque performance by Jeff in a couple of games, the Hoyas will actually excel at the end of the first half and beginning of the second half, and squeeze out a tough, and at times ugly, victory against the state of UConn.
UConn will make several runs, but a solid defensive scheme, as well as patience on offense, and some timely outside shooting (not quite at the level we shot against Pitt), the Hoyas will use some surprising production from Roy, to keep the Huskies at bay.
Despite our low-scoring, milk-the-clock approach to the game, we will actually use some sporadic pressure and get some easy buckets on the break, whereby we exceed 70 pts, but yet manage to hold UConn to under 70.
Georgetown 73 UConn 69
Game ball goes to...

I'm not familiar with Pomeroy. Who is he? And how do you derive the point spread from Sagarin ratings? Go to www.kenpom.com/rate.php and you can click on the FAQ's For the Sagarin www.kiva.net/~jsagarin/sports/cbsend.htm If you compare the numerical values (not the ranking numbers) that gives the point spread on a neutral court. Add 4 pts to the home team for a non-neutral court.

We've got a shot, but like Illinois, Connecticut is just to atletic and just too talented. We'll keep it closer, but lose, 78-68.
