Yeah but my reference to alcohol isn't saying "Getting drunk is the reason they act stupid." In this case, I'm thinking that the efforts by the University to curtail drinking over the first few months of school may have been a bit oppressive and have caused a sort of backlash in absurd behavior in the instances when the students can sort of go nuts.* I have no direct reason to say there's a connection. But I'm also not saying that the alcohol is the direct cause in that just being drunk is an excuse.
*If a Leo's Coolio concert isn't a chance to go nuts, I don't know what is.

Right, and I understand what you said. I should probably have been more clear. My post was more in affirmation of the line
We are ashamed by the actions of some students, which cannot be excused by alcohol consumption.
from the letter to the editor. There is certainly a lot to corroborate the theory that the campus last weekend was substantially more jubilant (for lack of a better euphemism) than it has been so far. I think it was Russky who mentioned the possibility of Coolio's recreational partakings leaving some residue floating in the air. Either way, from what I hear, Roy looked terrified walking around campus that night.

I think the alcohol rules have little to do with it, and if does, then some students seriously need to get lives.
The situation was the result of of ridiculous hype, a few too many shots of Burnett's, and nobody suggesting that there would be a cap on admittance. The GPB next year should stop resorting to facebook invites and use the campus email system to advertise and then notify people about changes for rain sites and attendance limits. The biggest mistake by far was allowing the sentiment that anybody could get in with a GoCard and that all would be peachy. If you know there is the potential for a rain site and you know the rain site does have fire code issues, MAKE THOSE FACTS PUBLIC. Even if it means moronic facebook message updates! Just something! At least you'll scare away a bunch of people "who don't do lines" and you'll probably eliminate some of the alcoholism of those who will end up in line.
The alcohol doesn't excuse the behavior by any means though. I got there late (and managed to peacefully sneak in before the crazies), but the initial realization of "oh my crap, that's a long line" was followed soon after with "...to M St!" It was a friggin' COOLIO concert. I don't think it's possible to be bombed and freak out unless you're an a**hole in the first place.

Speaking of shows at McD - just have to give a shout-out to the Tribe Called Quest show that was there when I was in school. It was their last show in DC, and it happened right on campus. Pretty cool. The encore was the best part, when they took requests. We were right up front, and were fortunate to get our tune played. DO YOU KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF A SKY PAGER?!?

I'm glad that Elsa recognizes that the problems this year have been unique and certainly nothing like anything I encountered over the last 4 years. Like I said before, many of this year's seniors deserve better. They've been a good class, and now, their events are getting fouled up to a wholly new degree.
