So this was an outdoor concert that had to be moved inside? Where did they move it? McDonough?

www.thehoya.com/viewpoint/102307/view7.cfmIs this really what gtown is like these days? are kids this retarded that they fight, spew vitriol and threaten volunteers when they don't get in to see COOLIO? ??!??! last time i checked, Fantastic Voyage was like 15 years ago. along with other bad press recently, can someone explain this phenomenon? i swear i don't remember hearing about these events from 97-01 - maybe just selective memory...the only thing i remember is one kid (who shall remain nameless) throwing a brick through the schneiderman's window. I heard it was an empty keg. I love the version I heard better.

It was supposed to be at the Multi-Sport Facility, but due to rain was moved to, ready for it?...LEO'S. Yes, Coolio performed in the Georgetown University dining hall...in 2007...it was awesome.

The whole event was bizzare as hell. A lot of the people (especially those crowding around the doors) looked like they crawled out of their parents' basements and I know a lot of students brought in friends from home that weekend.

Look, I graduated 5 months ago, and I don't even remember this kind of stuff. That letter in The Hoya was from the SCC Chair and another SCC Board member--two people and an organization that I'm very familiar with. Last year, we had over 1,400 seniors at our Dis-O tent party and the worst thing that happened was one kid tried to climb a pole that was holding the tent up. It was totally civilized, orderly. No fights for the kegs, no problems when we said they were kicked. It was all fine. I don't understand what's going wrong this year. But it's sad because this year's seniors deserve better. A lot of them are great kids who have done awesome jobs taking over leadership on campus. It unfortunately seems like some real jerk-asses have also come out of hiding and are making themselves known on a weekly basis.

I really can't reiterate this point enough, but seeing Coolio perform in a dining hall in 2007 might have been the second-greatest trainwreck of all time. Slightly behind Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. Big props to everyone who got it put together as it was a big event and there was a lot of campus excitement for it, but damn was that funny to watch. As for the letter to the editor, I didn't see any of that behavior but I was in the door before it started getting too full. If that's true it's deplorable. There was plenty of time to get to Leo's between when the doors opened and when capacity was reached, and it really shouldn't have been a mad rush. Everything went smoothly as I went in, but naturally it only takes a few people to mar an otherwise well-run event.

It makes me wonder if pent up aggression from the drinking regulations is coming out in some wild ways.

along with other bad press recently... wb3 - not all of us follow the goings on on-campus all that closely. Care to give a quick summary of what you're referring to? Has The Hilltop gone to hell since Green declared?

Has The Hilltop gone to hell since Green declared? He's probably talking about the alleged hate crime (actually crimes) and the whole NAACP vs The Hoya issue

Yes, Coolio performed in the Georgetown University dining hall...in 2007...it was awesome. Is playing a cafeteria the signal that one's career has jumped the shark? Reminds me of the time when an apartment complex I was living in actually booked the Pat Travers Band to play a pool party.

I wouldn't say that Coolio's career has jumped the shark - more like it's fallen off a pier and been eaten by a shark. I honestly didn't know that Coolio was still alive, let alone touring.

No, it's the reality that Georgetown has very limited indoor space for large events. Gaston Hall sits a little more than 720 people. Outside that you jump up to 2,000 + in McDonough, which we all know is not readily available for events outside of Athletics (as it should be). So when doing an indoor event that needs a capacity for more than 700 and less than 1,500 Leo's is the space that has been used for the past few years. Leo's has also played host to Secretary Rice and President Obasanjo of Nigeria (each allowing for 900+ to sit in attendance; standing room pushes that capacity higher, closer to 1,300 ... maybe 1,500 depending on fire code). Great job to those organizing such a successful event, especially in light of limited resources and space constraints. And I'll be interested to see how an event such as this pans out in the future on the MSF.

I'm not sure why they couldn't have used mcDonough we've had concerts there before? Was there really someone practicing at 11pm on a Friday? I know they did there best, but we simply don't have the facilities or equipment to run a real concert. I know they did their best with what they had, but it was hardly a smoothly operated event. It was one of the funniest things i've ever seen though, and i commend the groups that put it together.

I've heard from GPB people that JTIII has made it clear: during his season, no one touches his court. That's been a major factor in why a lot of GPB fall concerts get a bit rushed and haven't always been as successful as they might have been w/ more time and resources (including McDonough during basketball season)

Speaking of shows at McD - just have to give a shout-out to the Tribe Called Quest show that was there when I was in school. It was their last show in DC, and it happened right on campus. Pretty cool. I'm not sure why they couldn't have used mcDonough we've had concerts there before? Was there really someone practicing at 11pm on a Friday? not that that is an excuse for how those students behaved, however.

not that that is an excuse for how those students behaved, however. Agreed. It's really sad how many people use alcohol as an excuse to act like morons. A person isn't a completely different person when drunk, they have the same personality traits just exaggerated in the loss of inhibitions. I doubt anyone who was getting belligerent in the line outside Leo's, drunk or not, was the Dalai Lama when stone-cold sober. [/slightly gross generalisation, but I stand by it]
