Any information on this? edit: I thought it was "Henle", then I saw "Henley" on NBC, and thought I was wrong.

NBC 4 referred to it as a "barricade situation." More after the commercial break.
Update was a non-update - said there was a SWAT team there, police aren't releasing any info, and they will report on it at 5am.

Was just over there. SWAT was indeed there. No real details to share except that it has been resolved and everyone is safe.

A lot of rumors flying around, and I'm not sure if it's appropriate to put a link to the facebook profile of the kid supposedly involved...but he seems completely out of his mind.
On the plus side, it also seems like there was a quick and strong response. Whether from Georgetown, MPD, or both, it's definitely a sign of taking potential safety concerns VERY seriously.

Would it be so hard for them to spell Henle right?

This is one of the strangest events, if not the strangest, in my 4 years at georgetown. I still have no clue how the situation went from "former student barricaded inside dorm" to "former student on the loose." With the small army of police cars and other vehicles, the SWAT team, and cops with shields loading rifles that took over the henle/darnall area I have a little bit of a hard time buying the whole "it turns out he wasnt even in the apartment" story.

This former student was just recently suspended and lives in the area for the summer, so it wasn't some crazy ex-student from years and years ago. I don't think he is someone who would act violently, but better to be safe.

Ok so it seems that some people here know a lot more than others about the situation. Would someone mind telling the rest of us what generally happened?

Judging by the story: Police said they searched the campus for several hours, but were unable to find anyone. It would appear as if...wait for it... the Police and SWAT team canvassed the area with negative results.

Ok so it seems that some people here know a lot more than others about the situation. Would someone mind telling the rest of us what generally happened? I mean, I guess we (I) could, but somehow that feels kind of gossipy. If people really want to know what happened, they can PM me and I'll clue yall in. As it is, suffice it to say that this kid has been an ongoing issue the whole summer, if not longer, which makes this sort of crazy "40 MPD cars + K-9 units + SWAT within 150 yards of Henle" overreaction a little puzzling to me. I guess VT really affected them - that, and no one commits crimes on Sunday night, so maybe MPD had nothing better to do.

Another reason for the overreaction from what I heard was that there had been a previous incident earlier this summer with the same kid to which dps didnt respond quickly enough and he harassed some high school kid here for summer session. I dont know how accurate but thats what I heard. Also, he apparently jumped the fence to visitation and got away, so I dont know that I'd call it resolved. Its sort of funny that they sent like all dps to this, but then the very next night there is still nobody outside the front gates from 9-12 but three of them inside the library.

I don't think it's gossipy at all. In fact, I think it's irresponsible for the University not to have already sent out a broadcast email explaining what happened. You can't have so many students see a show of police force like that and then not either reassure everyone or give them the facts.
Personally, I don't know if the University did or did not send anything, but after 4 years, I'm going to guess that they didn't. Through all my experience at Georgetown, students have relied on each other for information that the school should be more open with. It's certainly anyone's right on this board to keep things private, but I wouldn't disparage anyone who shares facts with members of the community.

I agree that the University should tell something at least the barest facts, to those who arel iving on campus this summer. The only reason I would keep things private is because I have no idea is my "facts" are true or not, and sometimes people don't like rumors on this board

It's not that I'm uncertain of my facts, I would just rather be circumspect/cautious about what I put up in a public space on the internet (for a number of reasons). I'm sure we'll see a big Hoya expose on it before too long - too many people know the story for it not to get out.

I agree that to have 30+ police vehicles, police dogs, and barricades on campus and then not offer any explanation to the university community seems very unprofessional.
I'm with Rusky on this one. So much of what students were able to find out during the whole ordeal was either via rumor or told to students at least sort of in confidence by people in the know.
