You won't have to worry about this for a while. Around late June/early July (around the same time you learn your AP results) the university will send you a packet full of all the requirements and such that you'll have to do. Then after you get a Net ID you will be able to log onto Student Acess (which is kind of like you're account with the school, its where you pay your bill) and they'll let you preregister. Preregistration is when you look at the courses that are aviable and select which one's you would want to be in and also alternates if you can't get the one's you want. Freshman are at a large disantvantage because all of the upperclassmen have already selected their fall courses, so you'll basically be getting the leftovers. You will learn the results near the end of July/early August. Don't be worried too much about the results, even they end up putting you in only three classes or something (happens all the time). When you get on campus in August, the real registration will begin when you make a final decision on what courses you want. If you get everything you want through preregistration, then you don't have to do anything, but if not you'll be able to select finally what you get into. For a list of classes (with how much seating is aviable) here is a link: www14.georgetown.edu/explore/schedule/07C/But don't worry too much about it now, just enjoy the rest of your senior year.

Maybe things are different now but in my day, before the online registration, we were usually able to get into most classes we wanted during add-drop. It got to the point where I would use pre-registration to either go for long shot classes that I knew would be impossible to add into or classes in my major that I knew I needed. Add-drop week would make or break a semester.

You're right, add-drop is much more important than preregistration, but it is nice to get a garunteed seat in a class and/or just be done with the whole thing.

Add-drop week would make or break a semester. In the business school, there were no courses that would make or break a semester. I think there were three or four electives for my major past the required courses, and none of them were worth taking anyway.

if theres a high demand class - do people who pre-register first get preference or is it random among those that pre register before the deadline - the reason im asking is because theres a prosem i really want to get into - any advice

You can do it right away or you can wait to the last minute. For example, I completed my registration at around 8:00 AM for next semester and the deadline was at 9:00 AM and I got into everything I signed up for, and people who finished on the first day got nothing they wanted. It's really a crapshoot, unless you are an athelete. But if you really want a class, you could email the professor over the summer explaining your interest in being in his/her class. Then show up to class on the first day, regardless if you are enrolled or not. This has worked for some people, depends on the professor. I'm not SFS so I probably woulnd't know the prosem or professor you want.

The frosh prosem selection is probably the most important for incoming SFS frosh. I lucked out, fortunately, and had a relatively easy, but informative, seminar, but others had papers due every session and did not enjoy the course as much. I had to read a book a week, but the seminars were more discussion-oriented.
Some of the core courses are tough IMO (although they look easy on paper), and you'll be adjusting to college courses. So, it would be wise to evaluate the prosem choice thoughtfully.

Did people have trouble getting the classes they wanted? I think I got shut out of one class in four years ... and my alternate was pretty cool so I never bothered trying to add/drop.

Re: ADD/DROP week.
I was a SFS guy and I never had a problem getting a class I wanted.
One of my two CAS roommates had that problem once. But he was able to work it out with the professor.
And my business school roommate never had problems, either.

I had to go on the waitlist for a class once, but I got in. Other than that I haven't had any trouble getting into classes.

I never had a problem in my major but electives were frequently closed out forcing me to go the add-drop route.
