While HOYA basketball rankings give us a heady feeling for the first time in ages........Rankings now on newsstands nationally rank GU College barely in the top 25 U. S. colleges (and behind Notre Dame) and the Med School is something like # 44!!
Anybody watching the store??
Keep this up and we'll rank (academically) behind the likes of Maryland!
Any comments?

Georgetown's ranking in U.S. News has held steady since the inception of the ranking in the early/mid 1980s. Indeed, there has been very little movement in the ranking since the beginning--in no small part because a huge component is reputation, which studies have shown, is heavily influenced by the rankings themselves. BTW: I think 44 is close to the med school's all-time high. The law school has been between 9 and 14 over the course of the rankings' history. Undergrad has bounced between 17 and 25. The only program that has really jumped around is the b-school.

Yeah, nothing new here (in the rankings). The business school, though, seems to be making a steady climb; NHS (with its focus on international health) seems to be on a similar path. I assume that those movements will help the overall picture a bit.
Just need someone to donate a billion or so to our endowment.

Also, these rankings are not new- they came out in the fall. If we need to rehash this discussion again, let's take it to 37th and O. Food for thought- an unprecedented boycott of the US News survey is underway this year: www.csmonitor.com/2007/0412/p01s02-legn.html

School of Foreign Service was rated number 1 for its Masters Program by Foreign Policy Magazine. For a school where foreign service is one of its greatest assets, the undergraduate SFS is out of the top three and the Ph.D. program checks in at #13. www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=3718&page=1
