Well then wouldn't the best team in the country be the team that is playing the best together? and not the best collection of talent? Not always. The Kings were a better TEAM than the Lakers top to bottom in my book when they lost to LA in the Western Finals a couple of years ago. But the Lakers were considered the more talented team simply because Shaq and Kobe were considered to be the two best players. And of course the refs helped as well. ;D Anyway last year UConn was clearly the best team but the Huskies did not play like that for much of the season. Look at how GTech destroyed them in the pre-season NIT. Look at how they did not win the regular season BE title. But when the tourney started they got down to business and stepped up. Their talent was better and when they played GTech again it was no contest.

I'm suprised Bilas is drinking the Carolina Kool Aid, since he is a Dookie. Carolina are a bunch a losers. This is the same team that quit on their coach Matt Doherty, and then play hard for Roy "I could give a (bleep) about North Carolina, right now" Williams. Also the same team that lost to Santa Clara. ESPN are ACC lovers. Carolina is an offensive Juggernaut!!!...No doubt about that...if that makes them losers, then OK...but don't get it twisted, they are the best team in the country right now... They quit on Doherty because he was an abusive Jerk...I understand that kids these days are a lot softer than when I was coming up, but nobody deserves to be berated at every turn like he was doing to those boys... If he was such a great person and coach, why hasn't anyone hired him?

I have to disagree with MCIGuy about the Sacramento-Lakers analogy. The reason why the Lakers won those championships was because they were a team, particularly a better team than Sacremento. If you went down the roster 1-12, the Kings had more talent than the Lakers. Yes they had Shaq and Kobe, but their role players stepped up when needed, thus making them a team, and a better one than the Kings.
Phil Jackson's Lakers had less talent than Del Harris's Lakers. Not only did Del Harris have Shaq, Kobe, Horry, and Derick Fisher, he had Elden Campbell, Nick Van exel, and Eddie Jones, as well. People always talk about how Phil Jackson always had great players, but Phil was a master of maximizing his role players, and making his star players realize that these role players are an integral part their team's success.
Carolina is not a great team, and their players are overrated. Rashad McCants is another hubert davis/donald williams/joe forte type North Carolina 2 guard in a point guards body who will have very little if any success in the nba. Felton is not an NBA point guard. Williams has a chance, but there are no lottery picks on this team.

Felton may be the best pure point in the country... McCants is easily a lottery pick... Stop Hatin' on them and give these boys their due...I hate Carolina, but I know that they're the best team in the country right now...and the most talented...

Of course it's hate...damn it this is a Hoya board in the Big East not the freakin' ACC...take your Candy Katz self out of here if you want me to give props to any lilly livered, soft bellied, whiny ACC team, ever...
I mean where else are you meant to vent your hatred of UNC...does MJ last second shot not ring a bell? Hello?
Jesus man, I think there are plenty of boards out there where you can find love for the tarhells...you don't need to pollute this one or criticize me for being a hater.
I think I just threw up in my mouth. Goddamn ACC appologist...

You have no earthly idea what type of grudges I hold against these three schools...not just athletics, but how they have consistently mistreated people of color that DON'T play sports for them... You cannot begin to understand the type of disgust I have for these three institutions...

Cambridge. I think I just threw up right after you. A lot these guys on this board are closet ACC fans. If you notice, anytime somebody suggest what we should do as a team, there is always a Duke reference. "We only play six or seven guys during the game. well Duke does it so I guess its okay". "Well, we do shoot a lot of 3 point shots, but Duke does it too, so I guess its okay." I mean come on. Where is your G'twon/Big East pride. Its sickening. I mean, if you listen some of these guys on this board, you would think Rashad McCants IS the next Michael Jordan. Jeez, what is the world coming to.

Way, I understand your passion, and I'm a huge Duke hater, but I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out what other successful teams do when talking about changes in the Hoyas' style. And since ESPN is all up in the ACC's jocks, it's sometimes tough to remember who the other good teams are in the country, without first thinking about the ones that you hate. And for any who doubt my loyalty -- I hate dook I hate UNC I hate Maryland I hate Wake I hate Jay Bilas ... happy?

Perhaps I'm missing something - is it impossible to hate something but begrudgingly acknowledge that it is good? Aggy has the proper amount of dislike for ACC teams, but is simply saying UNC has a talent laden team this year. He's not comparing anyone to Jordan or gushing about their team. He's simply stating facts - they have a very talented team this year.

Jeez, what is the world coming to. Never question my pride...but my pride will never make me delusional... McCants may not be the next Jordan...but who is? He's definitely one of the top 5 offensive players in the country...

there are a lot of Maryland grads at ESPN...Katz went to maryland I think, as did that gigantor Scott Van Pelt - the long lost van pelt brother...otherwise, I agree wholeheartedly with the-way

Andy Katz is a disgrace. Here is a guy who never coached, never recruited, and never played college basketball, yet he acts like he has done all three. Kind of like that dweeb Marc Stein who covers the NBA for ESPN. Yet these guys are all experts. So what if Andy Katz has never played or coached? He writes and cultivates relationships with coaches and players. He is an expert. Peter Gammons never coached, played, or scouted, and yet he's being elected to the HOF. I would say that he's an expert. Andy Katz is the Peter Gammons of college basketball.

I will admit that only when alone and haunted by a troubled conscience, until then, I say UNC sucks... I understand...it took me awhile also... But after years of therapy, I'm able to give them their props... We use to hang out with Clyde Lynn from the '95 Final Four team, and he softened our hate for the Heels a little... During the mid to late 90's, they were probably the most exciting team to watch...much like the Hoyas in their Hey-Dey, if you liked them or not, you had to watch them...

I think Gammons qualifies as a rumor/trade expert, but not a baseball expert. Well, at least not as far as evaluation goes.

Nothing can take away from the excitement that I feel right now about our program and its future. I do not care if Chevy Troutman had a case of the colly-wobbles or whatever. The fact is that we beat a team last night that very few people expected us to beat. Certainly nobody outside of the GU community would have argued that we'd beat Pitt with a straight face. Well... We showed up and proved something last night for anybody who doubts JT3's ability as a coach. This is not to say that our players didn't win the game because they did, but they are the same players who needed overtime against Norfolk State. As such, I believe that the coaching staff offered some "added value" along the way because not just any team shows up at beats Pitt in their own gym. Congratulations to the staff for whatever they did to prepare the team for a great victory! All excitement aside, we must also temper our thoughts in the midst of a great victory. Now, I do not want to whiz on the parade, but we also need to be realistic. We are still a team that starts three freshmen and we are still the team that needed overtime against Norfolk State. This brings me back to my motto for the season, "We are never as good or as bad as we think we are." This means that we must prepare every game as if we are playing a top team because last night showed how anybody can beat anybody in the Big East. St. John's is not a guaranteed two wins and neither is Rutgers. At the same time, UCONN is not guaranteed a win when they show up this weekend. On a side note, someone should send a memo to ESPN. There was poor coverage of the GU-Pitt game in comparison to other things that nobody cares about, like WVU-Villanova. I have been trying to say that, but couldnt put it like u just did. YEa u gotta be realistic
