This is the best news to come out of GU since The Pub closed!

Yeah, this would be bad, hopefully it doesn't go through. I can understand the conern considering the recent DOPS incident, but what this will do is drive more students off-campus, which is definitely not what the neighbors want. It'll also increase hard alcohol consumption. It just ain't the answer, no matter what way you put it.

Everyone who knows me knows that beer is far from a desirable drink for me, so I'm not all that concerned except for something the GUSA response to the ban points out:
Kegs are just going to be replaced....with hard alcohol...which is a bit more dangerous than a cup of Natty Lite foam.
Edit: CAHoya07 beat me to the point. But the point still remains dangerous.

A terrible idea, that should be fought, will it have any affect though? The overwhelming majority of kegs on campus and in campus housing are bought illegally already so once you clear that hurdle i dont think much else is going to stop you or change your actions.
closing the pub was a far far worse idea whose ramifications the university seems to fail to recognize more than 10 years later.

It's only going to increase hard liquor use and illicit drug use since more people will be going to clubs or staying in to "chill."

I love the 80's! G-town edition
How lucky were we 80's era alumni? Hoya Paranoia AND an 18-year-old drinking age in DC.
How cool was it to share a beer with our resident Jesuit, Fr Murray, as a freshman in Darnall? The Pub? In Healy basement. Oh, yeah.
All you '00somethings--take solace in the fact that we are all OLD now.

Good point, tgo. I helped a friend sneak a keg into Village C West my freshman year, and there were certainly more than a few kegs in alcohol-free Village B my sophomore year. It would be virtually impossible to stop upperclassmen from sneaking kegs into LXR. Luckily, it appears the students on the disciplinary committee, as well as Todd Olson, are not huge fans of the proposal either. The likely result is that the committee and the University will be much busier dealing a) with violations of alcohol policy where nobody is getting hurt, b) problems in the Burleith and Georgetown neighborhoods where the ban does not extend.

They threw together a policy trying to ban kegs at UMBC this semester and they're already having to revisit it... the way they wrote it would apparently keep anyone from having more than one or two beers in rooms/apts in areas where alcohol is allowed. It was an overreaction to something happening too apparently.
