Pat Robertson may be full of hot air, but he's certainly not ignorant.
The son of a U.S. Senator and descendant of two Presidents, Robertson was educated in some of the nation's finest schools--Baltimore's McDonogh School, magna cum laude at W&L, a corporate law degree from Yale, and the New York Theological Seminary--no bastion of right wing thought.
What Robertson practices, therefore, is not ignorance but is demogoguery, because he chooses when to shoot off these broadsides and does so usually in time for fundraising purposes. More than most televangelists, Robertson is a shrewd businessman, and knows when the media will jump to some wild comment. Conversely, he knows not to be too wacky (a la Bob Tilton) and alienate his base.

I mean, I might be wrong about a lot of theology, but in the big family feud of christianity..."thou shall not kill"....survery says....

A more political take in the NYT is enclosed but it does dovetail off of some of Haught's ideas on time.... www.nytimes.com/2005/08/23/opinion/23tue3.html?incamp=article_popularFine DFW; Robertson's no ignorant dupe. But he is a charlatan, a theological snake-oil salesman of the lowest order. And I can guarantee you McDonogh's not exactly advertising in its promotional materials that he's an alum...

If anyone has further interest in the ID debate, the cover story in the most recent issue of the New Republic was written by a UChicago biologist who treats ID as a scientific theory and then tests it against observable fact. He (naturally) concludes that the evidence militates against any notion that a "intelligent" creator "designed" life on earth. He identifies numerous illogical phenomena (i.e., bad design) and even points out that there are aspects of the human body that are poorly configured (the eye) or utterly useless (appendix). In other words, if God had "designed" everything on Earth why would a transcendent and infallible being have made so many mistakes? Of course, all of these "mistakes" are readily explained by neo-Darwinianism. www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20050822&s=coyne082205

In the post above, I said that Pat Robertson usually says wacky things about the time he is trying to launch a new business venture. Well, I found a link to his latest business deal: "Dr. Pat Robertson’s Diet Shake", now available at GNC stores. Nine servings, $21.99. Doctor? Well, juris doctor, that is... www.religionnewsblog.com/12042/Pat-Robertson--s-shake-causes-a-stir
