I know we have a few members of the class of 2009 on the board and probably some of my fellow class of OAs and Captains. I just got an e-mail from my captain today with info on NSO 2005. Do any of the incoming new students have questions or concerns that some of the students and alumni on this board could help with?

I'm not a new student, but I'm actually curious as to what the schedule is for NSO? I'm working as an MSB student advisor, meaning I'm going to be moving in early and thus will be around for NSO... I'm wondering what cool activities they have planned?
Last year (my freshman year/NSO) they had stand-up comedian and Georgetown alum Mike Birbiglia. He did like an hour of comedy from the front of White-Gravenor, and I thought he was hilarious. Is he coming back for another year, or will there be anything similar in his stead? I'd like to check it out if so.

I'm not sure about the events. Mike is usually a lock - i think he's done about 20 events at GU since my freshman year. However, make sure you don't crash events with food or that are closed - Birbiglia is cool, but the NSO people are traditionally pretty touchy about people who aren't New Students crashing the events. I know that OA training starts on the 23rd of August so I would figure that the actual NSO starts on the 25th or 26th.

Birbigs is the man. I remember his G'Town debut in Gaston my sophomore year, I believe it was. Hi-larious. Now he's on Letterman, Leno, Cheap Seats... and got that same ol' easy delivery he's had lo' these many years. Keep cruisin', Mike. If D.L. Hughley can get a show on Comedy Central, you should have your own hour long HBO show in no time (man, with Chappelle out CC is REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel).

Just a little inside info - Birbigs is hosting Friday Night Stand Up on CC this Friday. And he probably won't get his own show because he has only changed his act once in the last 5 years. Also, he got into a fight with Godfrey (the 7-Up guy) on Colin Quins old CC show and as a result a lot of NY comics don't like him.

Birbiglia was ripping Godfrey when he opened for him at Gaston a few years ago too- "I can't believe I am opening for a beverage spokesman." His act is pretty good, but he definitely needs some new material or he needs to move on. He was in my class and he is a good guy, but I don't think I can laugh at his fear of bears again.

That's priceless, Jack c'mon! What about throwing your name into conversation like rappers do into songs? "So I went down to the cleaners to pick up my drycleaning... MIKE BIRBIGLIAAAAAAA!" I'm with you, though. New material needed.

So I was driving to the picnic in my Volvo station wagon when my friend was like, "Cracker, pass the sun-chips."
And I was like "Cracker, what?"
And he was like "Cracker, please."

And also I was the guy with GPB who put on the Birbiglia and Godfrey show - they refused to share dressing rooms near each other or talk to each other at anytime before or after the show. Mike was mad that he was getting less than Godfrey for the show - but he was also getting his standard appearance fee and so was Godfrey. So it shouldn't have actually been an issue.
