we can now see he doesn't have the strength to compete with big men in the conference. he can't take a hit and attempt a shot and he is getting beat down the floor by everybody. at least he has blocked some shots

yea, i dont mean to be mean, haha, but he looks kinda stupid on the floor, he is so big but it seems like he doesnt know what he is doin out there, and there is not really a backup fro him, other then Green who is short for C. However, he is progressing and I think he will be just fine soon.

Roy will be fine. At his age, he has tremendous upside.. He works hard, hustles, and gives it his all.. Proud to call him a Hoya.
Go Roy! Go Hoyas!

HoyaSAXA, the only thing that is stupid is your comment about a young 17 year-old young man in college giving everything he has on the basketball court for the blue and gray. Are you a Syracuse fan in disguise?

He needs to keep the ball up near his chin Is this what you were looking for? The kid is going to be fine - it'll just take time, hard work, and patience.

If I were coach, Hibbs would be walking around campus for the next week with a ball in hand, over his head, the entire time. Not allowed to take it down. He should NEVER bring it down below his head after a rebound inside. Keep it high, put it back in for 2. Once he puts on the weight, which he will, he'll be a bigtime inside presence if he never brings the ball down.

Bottom line - Hibbs plays hard. He is a freshman and will keep improving. Besides, how many 7'2'' guys do you see on the ground hustling for a ball. Not that I feel a comparison is necessary, but Mike Sweetney was not the amazing player that he was when he left when he first donned a Georgetown jersey.

I agree that he plays hard - he will learn to be aggressive at the right times and play within himself. Just stop putting the ball on the floor down low.
p.s. he is 18 now - celebrated his bday in the victory against San Jose State.

Chinatown - why the terrible negativity? We all knew Roy was a work in progress. I think he has shown some great potential this year. True, he can't bang down there like a 7'2" guy should, but he's only barely 18 (granted, he looks like he's about 14). But that's what we have Jeff down there for.
Having Jeff down low able to outwork UConn is going to be the key. We need both of them to be physical, but we're going to get the majority of that from Jeff. Although, I am pining for a Roy rejection right in Charlie Villanualien's face Saturday...

Sweetney was awesome when he came into GU and got even better while he was here. As a freshman, he was light years ahead of Roy. However, I'd be interested to check the posts from last year -- the ones that said Roy was a disaster, couldn't even compete at the HS level, was lazy, a disatrous recruit, etc. None of that is remotely true. Pointing out the kid would benefit from weights is to both state and ignore the obvious. Sure he would benefit. But he is a 7'2 kid who just turned 18 a couple of weeks ago, and who has had a lot of foot trouble. He'll get stronger. Give him time. What I like best about Roy -- even more than his height! -- is his attitude. He wants to play, he pulls for his teammates, he shows a lot of fire, he's learning the offense and the defense, and he is always enthusiastic. Diving for balls! at 7'2!! We lucked out with this kid. And he is going to get better every year. Esh was not a good coach, but he did leave us a few parting gifts -- especially Roy and Jeff.

i see alot of potential in roy and respect the effort that he gives i just think that it might have been a better idea for him to take an extra year (since everybody points out how young he is) either pg or redshirt to grow into his body and get stronger. Last night's game just demonstrated that he is physically unable to compete yet at the conference level. His inability to run the floor and hold onto the ball made him such a liability that jtIII could not put him on the floor during crunch time. i see big things for him in the future, but i just don't think physically he is able to help us out right now. i hope he proves me wrong on sat.

yes its obvious that he is not at a level where he can really compete with big east big guys and I thought in the beginning of the second half that he might end up losing the game for us with his play, but he is not so bad that we should have redshirted him and tried to find someone else to play at center. There isn't anyone other than hibbert that we could hold much trust in at center now. And he has great potential so having him play this year and get used to the offense and his teammates not only gives him experience and helps him improve but also allows him to be more comfortable in later years.
