I'm going to be in the DC/Baltimore area the week prior to Easter (including both weekends - Palm Sunday and Easter) and I was wondering about any advice on proposal locations in the area (either on campus or off.)
I noticed the Cherry Blossom Festival is starting that week and figured somewhere near the Jefferson Memorial might be good....
I'm also looking for locations in the larger DC/Baltimore area too.
My girlfriend lives in Baltimore and I'm going to be popping the question sometime between now and summer.... that week is a good possibility as of right now for doing it.
Thanks in advance.

If it's a nice night, you can't beat the Jefferson Memorial.

there is a great restaurant/bar on top of the hotel across the street from the treasury building, views of the white house and washington memorial, one of DC's best kept secrets, nice at night or possibly sunset, but i have only been there at night. if that isnt the place you pop the question it is a romantic spot to go before or after.
Roosevelt island is secluded and pretty.
of course there is always the trophy room/lobby at mcdonough that gets me excited!

Outside of Dahlgren in the Quad there. Best place on campus. Or, even better, if you go to the 2nd floor of Healy, and about mid way down the hall on the right side there is a window that opens up to a balcony overlooking that quad... might not be bad.
Jeff Memorial is good.
Ther is also a way to get into one of the towers at the top of Healy now. It's supposed to be locked but apparently people have found a way up - might want to look into that.

National Sculpture Garden (across from the Archives) is really nice: www.nga.gov/feature/sculptgarden/splash.shtmIn the spring, they'll have a fountain going in the middle of the garden (they have an ice rink in the winter).

that bar across from the White House is called the "Hotel Washington"...I think. Great views, and from what I remember, the drink prices are not that bad...
Good luck!

Cherry blossom time might make this cruise kind of pretty ........ www.dandydinnerboat.com/cruises.htmThe outfit is based in Old Town Alexandria and cruises up the Potomac to Georgetown before turning back around. Lots of pictures on the website. If you don't work up the nerve to pop the question while on the boat, then you can always hail a horse-n-buggy for a ride after disembarking in Old Town!!! Cherry Blossom time was always special in D.C.

If it's a nice night, you can't beat the Jefferson Memorial. That's where I'm leaning towards right now. I'm related to both Jefferson and John Marshall distantly (they were cousins.) Thanks to everyone else for advice. I remember stories about people getting into the tower at Healy when I was on campus in the early 90s. It was something related to a practical joke, maybe involving the clock. I got some really cool pictures the night of the Citadel game just before sunset of the Jefferson Memorial, the WWII memorial and the full moon over the old Post Office building.

Thanks to everyone else for advice. I remember stories about people getting into the tower at Healy when I was on campus in the early 90s. It was something related to a practical joke, maybe involving the clock. Students used to steal the hands of the clock and mail them to famous figures, like the Pope and Reagan. I'm not sure how they cut off access, but I remember someone saying that short of blowing down the door to get to the clock face, you couldn't get through anymore. They might have fused it shut or something like that.

I doubt any woman is going to want to tell the story about getting engaged at a place called "Crabby Dick's"!
