The alumni admissions committee just sent me some info about a "revealed preference" ranking that "has received significant national attention." Download it and scroll down to page 26 and you'll see GU with a very respectable #16 ranking.

Nothing against that survey, but it doesn't carry much weight at all, akin to a football team saying it's in the top 25 of the Massey computer poll but no one sees it in the AP top 25. Like it or not, US News is the AP poll for colleges.
The larger question is how Georgetown is preparing for the reaction when they are no longer in the US News top 25 poll.

DFW, you see that as an inevitablility? It's certainlly possible, as there is significant volatility from year to year in the rankings. The reasons for our relatively lowly rank in US News is well trodden ground on this board, but I wonder what, in the short term, could we do to reverse the trend.
Any thoughts on what the reprecussions might be? Would we see a decline in applications or yield? Is there a comparable situation for another school in the past.

Well, despite the decline in rankings this year, our early admissions applications increased by roughly 4%, if memory serves.

GU should have posted the ranking on its website which they never did if they wanted more publicity--more impact from it--it would be interesting if USNews made it an input into ther rankings(I have no idea if they would ever do it)
RE ranking slipage, I'm not sure what we can do over the next year from falling out other than hope--as far as the medium-long term there should be plenty of things that could help GU stay in, but that's really part of the univ's overall strategy--its hard to say whther we're on the right track in this regard--when you hear other top univ president's speak they seem to have pretty clear objectives, while GU is pretty vague and really not very performace oriented.
