Noticed on washingtonpost.com that MLB had a recent meeting at a Georgetown area law office and that potential sites for a stadium in the district were discussed. Anyone have information on the sites and/or prospects for a final decision on the Expos to go in DC's favor?

Don't have time to look it up right now, but WPost and WTimes have both done a number of articles on the DC proposals. To my memory, there are three or four proposed DC sites:
- one near the intersection of NY and Florida Aves (near the XM radio HQ), - one in the SW waterfront, near 395, L'Enfant Plaza and the Jefferson Memorial - one on the site next to RFK - one on South Capitol Street (near the Navy Yard, maybe?)

Last I heard, Las Vegas (even with the gambling) was still in the running. Anybody heard anything different?

I think the major factors in DC's favor are: 1. RFK is the only facility among the contending cities that could be converted for temporary use for next season. 2. Last week's primary elections show that the window to get a financing package approved in DC now closes in 3-1/2 months.
These seem to have given MLB the motivation they need to step up the pace.

Can they just make this happen already? Why all the secrecy and charade? Just give the team to DC...it deserves it. I like the waterfront idea...as well as the RFK renovation thought.

The primary reason for the delay in granting a team to DC is Peter Angelos, owner of the Orioles. He is opposed because the Orioles draw a lot of fans and revenue from the DC area. And the ownership of baseball is such an old boys network, that few of the other owners will go against him.
However, in order for DC to submit the necessary legislation to have RFK ready for interim play next spring, a decision must be made by next Friday. Therefore, by October 1, we should know if DC is getting the Expos.

Anyone who's been to an O's game knows that they aren't drawing any fans from...well...anywhere. Hahah, seriously is there a larger Red Sox outpost than Camden Yards...well maybe Oakland, but the majority of the people who go to those games seem to be supporting their "home" team. If the Yankees are in town, it's a bunch of New Yorkers. If the Sox are in town, it's a bunch of Sox. Every week. Same thing. I once saw a game there in 1999 when Pedro was pitching. He was at strikeout number 13 and the stadium was chanting Pedro Pedro. Deafeningly loud. I felt horrible for the Orioles batters...well for about five seconds. Hahaha.
