I saw that Professor Aggarwal was named as the interim dean of the business school. I know Professor Mayo held that position for the past 2 years. I read his term was only for 2 years. Does anyone know if he did not want to continue or did DeGoia want to go in a different direction? Why?
Hopefully Georgetown can get a dean who will raise the profile of Georgetown's business school. With the construction of the new building looming in the near future, it would be nice to bring in a high profile scholar/administrator to help raise the prominence of the business school.

The trouble is that great scholars sometimes makes lousy deans. Gone are the days when a deanship was a comfortable office before retirement--today's dean's are part-time CEO's and full-time fundraisers. So how about a Jesuit as dean? Or, rhetorically speaking, will that never happen again at Georgetown?

I suggest Othmar Winkler for dean of MSB. Has anyone ever been more enthusiastic than Dr. Winkler?
Ah, the stories I could tell.

What jesuit's would you have in mind? We need someone who can raise money, has vision and credibility, and sorry to say preferrably an outsider. Its troubling that no acceptable candidates wer're found on the last search. Does anyone have any idea who was considered and what happened.

From what I know, Prof. Mayo decided that what he wanted to do was go back to teaching, rather than continue on as Dean -- even though he was probably the strongest candidate out there.

Othmar. Now there is an idea. I don't know if he would give up his position on the admissions committee, though. He has been known to spend more than an hour on each file he reads, compared to approximately 10 minutes that everyone else is able to dedicate to the process.
As for a Jesuit dean, it has got to be darn near impossible to find someone who is both qualified and interested in the position. Guys like Kevin Wildes and Scott Pilarz are wonderful people and I hope they establish themselves at their new schools, but they jumped about 10 steps on the academic ladder when they became university presidents. Hard to imagine what GU's lay faculty would think about a similar promotion at the MSB.

I want to preface this article by saying that I mean no disrespect to Professor Aggarwal with this message; I wish her the best of luck in her new role.
I must say that I was very disappointed with the selection committee’s decision in not choosing a Dean from the pool of available candidates. Of the available candidates, the one that seemed to be the most popular among business school faculty was the former Controller (perhaps it was Assistant Controller) for the state of California. I think the faculty was convinced that she would have definitely improved many of the shortcomings that plague the business school. Unfortunately, I think the committee found that her no nonsense style rubbed some people the wrong way; accordingly, the committee chose not to select anyone at all. For once, I wish this University would choose a person for a position based on their ability to get results, not because they are a “nice guy/gal”. That is not to say that these two things are mutually exclusive, but if I had the choice of only one, it would be the ability to get results.

Where can I read about the pool of former candidates for Dean of MSB?

I am not sure if it is available. I heard all of this from my former professors at MSB. I will see if any of them are willing to mention any names of candidates.
