With all the bowl games on TV, not sure how many tuned in to the KU-GTech hoops game on 1/1/05. I flew from Atlanta to KC just for the game thanks to KU alumni tix from my family. Sat behind the KU Chancellor 15 rows up at midcourt.
Simply put, what a magical game. Despite a holiday break, there were 16,295 KU fans and about 5 Tech fans. Without a doubt, that was the loudest environment I have ever heard. When the Jayhawks got their first lead 43+ minutes in, the crowd erupted. Langford's game winner in OT sent the place into absolute hysterics. Watching the replay on tape doesn't convey just how loud it was there.
I hope some of the GU administrators watch games like these and realize what an on-campus facility can provide to the school and its student base.

We all would like a place like that but we will probably never see it. We have got to get over hoping for a facility that has very little chance of being built (if at all -because GU has no $$ to build it) and if the team is successful enough to warrant it, would not be nearly big enough to accommodate the fans that want to come to the games. We have to concentrate our efforts on making MCI a better home court by selling the now limited number of seats to GU fans - whether University or local - so those important games are not full of opposing fans. Let's hope we can get to the point where we have a reason to debate opening up the upper deck - for GU fans. And a happy and prosperous New Year to the Hoyas and everyone on the board. And if you can, please make a donation to one of the many Tsunami Relief efforts. That could be our west coast someday.

Let's hope we can get to the point where we have a reason to debate opening up the upper deck - for GU fans. I have to disagree. That kind of argument also assumes that MCI Center will always act in Georgetown's best interests. If MCI doubled the rent, for example, then what are Georgetown's options? Georgetown is neither a downtown university nor a commuter school for D.C. It owes its on-campus student body first and foremost, and it owes them representative facilities to learn, and that includes a gymnasium that is comparable with its peer institutions and not leaving students a building from the Truman administration. Banking on MCI Center as this program's only home makes as much sense as when the football program banked on Griffith Stadium to solve its own facility problems. Let's not repeat that mistake.

DFW is right on. Those who contribute to athetics as towell as other areas within the university must continue to emphasize to the administration the univeristy wide benefits of a good on campus arena. Remember the old radio ads" money talks and then nobody walks"

I'm not saying that I wouldn't love to see an on campus arena - I would and I will have a sizeable donation ready if it ever comes to pass - I'm just saying that it's not going to happen any time soon, so we better make the best of the situation at hand. A suitable on campus arena is nice to think about - but it is not part of the GU basketball reality and won't be until the first shovel of dirt is turned and I can't see that happening until any recruit who is in high school now has finished their college career.
