This game will come down to the stud freshman on the Hoyas vs. the studs of Pitt. Unless Bowman actually decides that playing well against a quality team is a good idea-then again, the last time that happened, he made two clutch free throws against Pitt and then Drew Hall...................................
yeah, anyway, I can't see Green and Hibbert outplaying Troutman or Wallace outplaying Krauser. While I agree in principle w/ the punctuationless one, (Hoyas win a close one or lose a blowout), I see the blowout loss as more likely. It being during break hurts the Hoyas chances also, as there isn't likely to be much of a homecourt advantage w/o the student section.

I love my Hoyas but I just don't see this one as being a close one. I think we get destroyed on the boards as both Green and Hibbs get their first good look at Big East post play. However, I think we'll play much better later in the week against UConn in a close loss. I think we start 0-2 in conference, but pick up some good experience heading into the weaker part of the be schedule where we win 4 out of the next 6. I'll be extremely happy with a 4-4 start regardless of who the losses and/or wins are against.

Pitt is an awful matchup for us. They play slow down as well, so nothing we do will get them out of their game pace wise. They've been doing it longer, and they have a more talented team. We have no guard who can play with Krauser, and if anyone can compete with Jeff athletically, it's Chris Taft.
If Roy stays in, Brandon will have a nice matchup versus Pitt's worst player, but if he doesn't, he has to play against Troutman, which will be good on offense, but on defense...uggh.
I'm not saying we can't win, because we can. The game will be slow, so if we shoot well - Clemson/Davidson well - we can win this game. But we're underdogs like Howard was an underdog to us by most systems. Let's just hope we're underdogs like Norfolk State was...

Well, since I am from Pittsburgh, I will be at this game rooting on georgetown heavily. I go ebvery year there in town. I get tickets on pitts side purposly to talk trash so I will be doing the same this year. I have watched pitt alot this year, and green and bowman will do very good but its gonna be greta to see cook on ck and taft on hibbert. I think gtown can pull an upset. Taft doesnt do well against players bigger than him.

After UConn, Georgetown gets: Rutgers at home at Villanova (at the Ski Lodge, no less) at Syracuse Notre Dame at home I think we take 3 of these 4 (both home games and at Villanova). We beat St. Johns and then get a nice mid-season reality check in a blowout loss to BC. If we are 4-4 or 3-5 through 8 games, we should be in great shape considering the next 5 opponents are Seton Hall, Rutgers, W. Virginia, Notre Dame, and St. Johns. If we go 3-2 through that stretch the worst case scenario has us at 6-7 with three games left and already qualified for an NIT bid. I'm hoping for better but the scenario I laid out might be the best case scenario. I guess we won't know more until we see how this team handles Pitt and UCONN.

Speaking of Rutgers, the Air Force beat them last night by quite a bit. That bodes well for our type of play.

Not going to predict an outcome for tonight's tilt, but I thought I'd lay out a few goals for tonight's game.
1. Shoot 40% from 3 -- There has been plenty of discussion about whether we're taking too many threes, but with Pitt trying out a zone (of which they've only played 20 minutes in the last three seasons), we should have some good open looks.
2. Keep Krauser under 15 points -- As has been noted, Krauser, like Brandin Knight before him, is what makes the Pitt offense go. This is a huge test for the Hoya backcourt, but let's be honest, Krauser is no Deron Williams, and so a good defensive effort on him is far from impossibhle. Solid D from the guards is absolutely necessary, because if we continue to have Roy finding himself at the top of the key provide help defense on guards, Taft and Troutman will kill us.
3. More assists than turnovers -- The Hoyas are currently averaging 15.3 assists to 13.6 turnovers per game (a 1.125-to-1 ratio). Only once in the last 15 years have the Hoyas ended a season with an assist/turnover ratio higher than 1 (1.01/1 in 2001-02). Maintaining a positive ratio during the Big East season, and particularly against a team like Pitt, would be a great sign of the new era under JTIII. And keeping turnovers low is hugely important as the Hoyas have not yet figured out how to successfully...
4. BOX OUT!!!!! The Hoyas have been giving up way, way, way too many offensive boards, and while collecting a decent number of their own on the offensive glass (mainly thanks to Jeff), cannot possibly hang with a team like Pitt if they are going to give the Panthers 10-15 extra shot opportunities.
Work on these four things, and the Hoyas have a real chance in this game, but more importantly, will continue their upward trajectory of improvement on the season. We have a tough start to the BE schedule, but as long as I continue to see signs of improvement, I will take some comfort in the knowledge that better days are coming.

We always have a chance. I would like to remind Ray Reed about the virtues of passing the ball...

That's funny -- with Reed having almost as many assists (24) as field goal attempts (30) on the season, I'd think that's one lesson that he has taken into account -- whether he's a Big East player or not! ;D

Ray Reed is a Big East player. If he wasn't he would have transferred like some in the past have done.
I think we will win by 8 points tonight. Ashanti Cook and Jeff Green will be the stars of the game. Tyler Crawford in only 8 minutes of play will play inspiring defense to help spark the Hoyas with a victory over Pitt.

I'll predict Bowman scores 25 tonight. I also predict a monster year for him...his stats might not show it but he has been pretty impressive so far this year, even with the constraints of our new offense.
Whether 10 of those are junk points because we're getting blown out I don't know...
Eh, I'll predict a 6 point Hoya victory 67-61. You gotta believe your team is going to win going into each game.
