I'm happy to see that he's getting the recognition he deserves. Way to go JG!
Let's hope not only that he gets at least 2/3 more of these awards during the BE season, but that, he also pulls out a BE Player of the Week too!
Right now, can you believe that according to the Big East website, Georgetown has not a single player on our roster who has won the player of the week award?
Not even Brandon!
Here's how it stands:
ACTIVE CAREER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Ryan Gomes, PC 5 Hakim Warrick, SU 4 Rashad Anderson, UC 2 Carl Krauser, UP 2 Chris Thomas, ND 2 Quincy Douby, RU 1 Billy Edelin, SU 1 Torin Francis, ND 1 Chevon Troutman, UP 1 Tyrone Sally, WVU 1 Craig Smith, BC 1 Curtis Sumpter, VU 1
I would love to see Bowman and/or Green rack up at least one of these throughout the season. Given where we are likely to stand in the BE standings, it will be very difficult for players to get their due recognition, but at this early point, I'm not ready to concede anything!
LET'S GO HOYAS!!!

If we can pull off an upset of one of the big boys and then beat another team in the same week, then we should have a shot at getting a player of the week. I've found that leading the team to victories is usually a requirement and since we didn't win much (or with any consistency) last year, we didn't have a shot for anyone to get it. I believe Sweets got it a few times the year before.

It should come as no surprise whatsoever that no current Hoya has been BE player of the week. The list, though, does lead me to ask two questions:
1. How is it that Craig Smith has been player of the week only once?
2. What did Billy Edelin and Tyrone Sally do to warrant the honor?

In Edelin's case I think it was when he demonstrated the ability to be eligible to play. That alone was almost worthy of Player of the Year recognition. ;D

And yeah, I can't believe Craig Smith only hasn't gotten the award yet. He's Ryan Gomez, minus the flash, plus he's on a mediocre team, so that's probably it... Can't believe McNamara isn't on their either.....

Does anyone know how Jeff's numbers compare to Sweetney's at the start of his freshman year? I can look it up, but just wanted to check to see if anyone already knows.

Mike averaged 13 pts and about 7.5 boards, along with a block and steal a game.
Of course, Mike also played with a future NBA player (Ruben), and two NDBL-level talents in Lee Scruggs and Kevin Braswell. Add in Hunter and Perry...
Mike jumped to 19 ppg his sophomore year.
As a comparison, our other freshman starter who stuck around, Gerald, went from 7 ppg to 10 to 13 to 17 during his four years. Gerald was not much of an offensive player early.
Strange that that team started three freshmen -- Ruben, Sweets, Riley, Hunter, Braswell were the starters.

Actually, I think there were only two frosh starters... I'm doing this from memory, but I think that the classes went like this.
Senior -- Ruben Junior -- Bras Sophomore -- Demetrius Frosh -- Sweets and Gerald
Demetrius came in with Jason Burns and Courtland Freeman (and I think one other player), whereas Sweets and Gerald were in the class with Omari and Ramell

You're right. Hunter was a sophomore.
