I don't know if I would be too hard on Sarin (is his nickname "poison"?). He seemed to be in every play and on the returns too. Probably was too exhausted to fall on anything.

Anybody know if it's too late for me to try out for the kicking job(s)? I'm pretty good from 20 yards, so at least PATs shouldn't be an issue.
Going for the FG with 0:07 to go in the first half and down 16 was the worst play calling I've seen probably ever. The kicker has missed 2 PATs already, and you're down three TDs just about. Show some stones. The FG attempt was off to the left about 20 feet, and I don't think it reached the middle of the end zone. Disgusting.

Yes... I saw what you saw at the game... but don't forget how exciting the drives were that the offense put together... when we had some momentum going for us... and we did several times... Let's not beat up on the kickers... Lehigh is a very good team and they showed it today... sure we had some mishaps on special teams, we got a bad break on the opening kick-off, but there were so many other positives... our kick-off return for a touchdown was just as exciting as theirs... I thought the defense played well... we broke up several passes with great plays, a nice diving interception, and their running back found it tough going up the middle... I thought this Hoya team showed up today and played hard for sixty minutes... and I can't ask them for more than that.

I agree with several of your points, but its a lot easier for you to say that we shouldn't beat up on the kickers when you haven't been watching them miss extra points at just about every game over the past few season. Even one missed extra point can have a huge effect on the game.
We ended up having to go for 2 the next couple of times down and we failed to convert on both. If those had all been converted extra points the score would have been 35-21 (instead of 35-18)at one point with us driving. If Sarin hadn't fumbled and we had scored on the drive it could have been 35-28 and who knows what would have happened after that.
The horrible kicking game has cost us big time in numerous games over the past few seasons.

This game was flat out depressing. I appreciate people trying to take positives out of it, but for me and most of the Georgetown student body, watching our football team play is just painful. Stupid mistakes, missed PATs, missed tackles, an impotent offense, even worse play calling, they all add up to horrible football. Most students have seen better football in their high school games.
I hate to sound like a pessimist, but the reason why nobody goes to the games (in addition to crappy facilities) is that our team just plain sucks. We have a lot of improving to do, we're Georgetown, we should be able to reach the upper levels of the Patriot League. I don't know how we're gonna do it, whether we need a new coaching staff, but something has to be done, this current program is failing.

Just to clarify: During a football game a lot of little things have to work for a play to succeed... the kick-off returns by both teams for touchdowns resulted from great special teams blocking, to spring the ball carriers loose. Place kicking for an extra point or a field goal are two more examples where little things have to work.... For these plays to succeed you need several perfect actions to occur... if the ball is slippery the center might not pass it directly to the place-holder at a point 25" above the spot the kicker has designated for placement... the kicker starts the play when he's ready, because he begins to stride to that spot on the snap, before the ball arrives. The place holder fields the ball and in one motion spins it so that the laces are facing away from the kicker, important because the ball will fly astray if struck on the laces... and the ball should be angled for the kicker in such a way as to maximize trajectory (ever see a ball hit a lineman in the rear)... the kicker is swinging his leg toward the placement spot and if the ball is not there, or laying flat, or if the holder is holding it with two hands and unable to find the laces, then the timing is way off... and the kicker stalls, and you can forget about accuracy at this point. But the reaction in the stands is "I can do better than that..." or worse. Our regular holder got a concussion in the Fordham game and the coaches felt it was in his best interest not to be exposed to the potential of further injury for this game... I'm sure some practice time this week will solve the timing problem so that in our next two games we will be more succesfull.

Yeah, but we've been missing extra points regularly for at least the past two seasons since I came here. I think the regular holder has been in there for the vast majority of those misses.

Wes:
I understand how little things have to work. I've been watching football for about nineteen out of twenty one years. Answer me this:
Why do these little things work 99% of the time for NFL teams, 96% of the time for college teams, and 85% of the time for high school teams, but like 40% of the time for Georgetown?

In response to Joe... I went to the conference stats on the internet and found that our kicker is tied for first in the Patriot League with 8 field goals... he is also the leading scorer on the Georgetown team with 33 points, Davis is second with 18... out of all of his kicking opportunities he has a 17 for 25 result, which breaks down to 9/12 on PAT's and 8/13 on Field Goals... And, our punt return team leads the conference...

There is no doubt that Joe was exaggerating on the percentage a bit there. However, Im pretty sure it was a lot worse last year on PAT's and 75% this year doesn't do anything to prove your point. 75% on PAT's is absolutely horrible for the college level.

I was at this game and I was very impressed by our teams play... overall. We have other conference season stats that are important to note: Tackles for loss, player... Ononibaku (1st) Fumbles recovered, player... Paulus (1st) But: Passes defended, player... nobody listed in top ten Pass defense efficiency, team... last in conference I watched Lehigh easily complete 4 touchdown passes, and that's worth 24 points... our safeties are costing us 12-18 and more points a game.... on the Lehigh 62 yard touchdown play our cornerback covered the receiver effectively on the short route and seemed to release him to the deep cover safety, who was nowhere in the vicinity... if you want to see scoring, stand next to one of our safeties at the next game.

"When 5'9" cornerback cover 6'4" receiver on fade pattern, defender come up short."
