Aloha!
We are very busy out here celebrating a great Hoya victory over Clemson and quite a good building week for our program. the Hoyas disappointed us in that first game against a surprisingly good ORU team. But we played a lot better against LBS and really played an awesome second half against Clemson.
The credit deserves to be spread around... Hibbert, Green -- Bowman played his best game here by far -- Cook, Reed contributed in a big way -- and under control! Wallace. These guys really came to play and were quicker and more agressive than Clemson.
The two of us were jumping up and down at some of the plays our guys made. In addition, the enthusiasm displayed by Hibbert: ROY -- ROY ROY ROY!... he is becoming quite a team leader and his energy is infectious.
You guys would all have been really proud of our Hoyas and very pleased. JT3 is making big strides with these guys, and all the coaches are totally involved with the game and the players. Lots of instruction and encouragement happening all the time.
I am sure we'll have more detailed reports later, but for now we are looking at an incredible view of the ocean, sipping beers and praising our guys..
Let me give the keyboard over to saxacd for a moment.
My favorite plays were three of the same -- what I referred to when yelling at SirSaxa as "Princeton with a Georgetown twist" -- meaning beautiful backdoor plays that ended with Brandon slamming the ball reverse style. THREE TIMES!!! It's a glimpse as to what this offense can be once everybody gets comfortable with it, but wow was it pretty to see today -- much more Sacramento Kings than Princeton Tigers, but the same general principles.
All in all a great effort, and the most encouraging thing to me was the defense right from the start. Clemson tore Indiana St. apart with interior passing for easy dunks (their big men's range seems to be no farther than this), but the Hoyas came up with lots of early steals that seemed to change Clemson's gameplan. Clemson had three early blocks but only one more for the entire game, and Roy absolutely bothered the hell out of guys going towards the hoop. My personal favorite was when a Tiger drove the lane and then saw Roy and chucked up something or other about 20 feet in the air, that we then knocked down into a turnover. Heheheheheh, nice shot, guy.
Anyway, great win, and it was great to see the enthusiasm of the the GU players and the fans alike in the almost empty arena (6,000 again according the Washington Times? hah! Maybe Ken Wright had a few Mai Tais before that last game...). Hopefully something to build on and it would be great to see the always effervescent Sead and some of the other guys get some burn during our next few patsy games.
Grrrr back to the cold weather tomorrow... but fun while it lasted! Aloha!
Hey, we hope we gave you guys a little insight and flavor of being here. Looking forward to lots of great reports from you when our Hoyas return to DC!
