I think the NIT cares most about making money, and if G'town can finish above .500 this year, that will give the Hoyas an improved buzz over last year, and the name recognition will likely translate into an NIT invite.

Don't forget that we will need to go at least 6-10 in the conference to be eligible (14-13 overall). I think if we can finish with at least one more win at 7-9, then this will be a great story for the NIT/ESPN and you know they never miss out on a good story. When we were picked for next to last by most preseason rankings, that meant that we would finish with anywhere from 2 to 4 wins in the conference. If we can eclipse that mark and finish with 7 wins (possibly one upset of either Pitt, UCONN or Syracuse) and there will be a lot of bandwagon jumping by the sports media.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we go to the NIT again after Esh / whoever the decision maker is turned them down? I thought we went to the NIT final vs. St. John the year after Esh blew off the NIT bid. I might be horribly confused.
If I'm right, I think that was all water under the bridge years ago.
Peace outside,
-JJ

Peace outside, -JJ You are correct. However, we had Mike Sweetney on that team (future lottery pick) and ESPN(NIT) was not going to ignore the marquee player attraction. I think this year's Mike Sweetney is JT III as the name combined with G'town should give us the edge over other potential NIT teams.
