Good win today. From what little I heard, it seems as if we made some progress in the tournament. For whatever reason we didn't show up vs ORU, hung tough at the end vs LBS (shouldn't have let them get back in it, though), but came together in the 2nd half today, getting a 20-7 start, and kept up the pressure by taking good shots and making them. Plus playing good D. Congratulations Hoyas! Merry Christmas!

5 steals and 5 assists for Ray Reed! Very, very nice game from him. He seems to be coming along nicely. Perhaps it really was a conditioning and game time issue early in the season.
The Clemson announcers were very complementary to Hibbert's contribution. They said that he was really affecting the Tigers and making it difficult to operate anywhere near the lane. Big Roy's coming along really nice.
Someone has to step up and help out in the front court. When Bowman, Hibbert, and Green get in foul trouble, we really have no where to turn. AKD, Sead, or Nelly are going to be called upon during the BE season to at least man up and be tough in the paint.

Looks like Ross played extremely little tonight... is he hurt again?
For that matter, what was the starting lineup tonight? Did we begin big again with a BB/Roy/Jeff frontcourt?

nyc,
I was doing my best WilsonBlvdHoya impersonation in a Clemson chat room tonight because their regular PBP person had to work so I didn't get to HoyaChat tonight.
The Clemson PBP guy does Panthers sidelines work for radio and also is the sports director for the CBS affiliate in this market. He does a very good job after having big shoes to fill after the long-time announcer died in the middle of the '03 FB season. The Asst. SID who did color was doing her 3rd game ever. The SID (who is a Notre Dame alum and the biggest stats geek I've ever met) usually does color on hoops games. Sorry you missed hearing him but his fill-in did a very good job (it sounded like she went to the same HS as one of the Hoya players.)
The Clemson press sounded like it was going to be problematic at first but it was good to see Bowman back up to 22 tonight and having 2 other people in double digits.
Clemson is very young also. I think the difference in some of the the games they'll lose this year will be the PG position. The probable starter was suspended for the whole school year after a fight back at the beginning of the semester and I'm not sure when he'll be back. I think he wouldn't have made much of a difference tonight. The turnovers bit Clemson tonight like they have in other games this year. Even with wins against people like Norfolk State they were having slow starts and too many turnovers.
As I told the people in the Clemson chat tonight toward the end, both teams should be ranked higher than preseason predictions and I think tonight's game can be good for both of them.
Coah Purnell, a Salisbury MD native, had very good things to say postgame about Coach Thompson and about Georgetown. He specifically mentioned that GU played better in the mental aspects of the game and mentioned that defending the Hoyas' offense with little time to prep for it caused problems.

TigerHoya, watch whom you imitate!! LOL Apologies to the board for not making the chat room tonight; apparently I missed a good one! It would have been nice to type in 16-20 FG for GU in the 2nd half. I thought I was going to be around but work and family commitments/late-breaking developments precluded live Clemson coverage.... Happy Holidays/Merry Xmas to all....Is 80% FG in one half a GU record?! Maybe have to go back to the Elite Eight Oregon State game of 82 NCAAs to see a better half (or two halves of GU shooting!!)....Cheers...WBH

Ross was not hurt, but played little last night and tonight. Reed got a lot more time and was first off the bench. Reed played great today. The starters -- for the second straight game -- were Roy, Jeff and Brandon, along with Wallace and Cook.

WBH, that Oregon State game in '82 was great. I think Anthony Jones, who later transfered to UNLV, had a good game, among other players.

It's nice to see Roy starting. I have one question about it, however-how's it going to effect Owens if he has to come off the bench? It seems to me that it probably will send him even deeper into the funk that he's started the season in. Now, I'm not bashing the move by JT3-Roy's earned the starting spot, especially after the Oral game, and he's definately going to be key if we're going to make some noise in the Big East. Owens is important too, however. I'm a little perplexed by his performance so far this year.

I noticed Jeff Green played the full 40 minutes. I kind of wish JTIII would give him a few minutes here and there so he doesn't wear down as the season goes on. We need him. He is a beast.

Pretty upset now that I wasn't able to be in the chat room tonight, but big win for the Hoyas! Seems like everything came together for one game and in the 2nd half we were hitting on all cylinders. The best thing about this game is that it was a TEAM effort - 4 players in double figures, 2 double-doubles (BB and JG, kinda close to JB and KG for those Tenacious D fans out there ), plus Roy and Ray's big-time contributions. Let's not get TOO high after this one, though, we need to prove we can do this or at least come close to this on a game to game basis. Nevertheless, big step for our guys today. And Jeff Green, possible Big East Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row? Wooooo!!

Nice to see four players in double figures and Hibbert and Reed play their role extremely well.
I'll just say the stat line for Ray Reed was damn impressive, 5 pts, 5 assists and 5 steals off the bench in 28 minutes. I don't care which one does it (Reed, Owens or Ross) but if we can get solid contributions from 2 of the 3 on a nightly basis off the bench, then we could surprise some teams. When none of them add anything, we will lose. Let's hope BB destroys the next two opponents and enters the big east season on a tear. Let's get some big leads and get some good time for Reed, Ross, Owens, Guibunda, etc..,.

Did you miss the one where I complimented him on getting the Princeton offense? At least I didn't swear while doing it!! Seriously though, and not taking away from Bowman's performance that shows what he needs to and CAN do every game, fouling a three point shooter late in games is a bugaboo that's leftover from last year for this team and a teaching point for the staff.

3 biggest wins and 3 biggest losses we've had in years.
This was a BIG win. We take the MEACs next week, we're 8-3 against a tough non-con sched.
Improvement, cometh slowly, but cometh.
Go Hoyas! Merry Christmas to all!
