I'm new to the Hoya football community and live in the DC area. I have been unable to learn of any organized efforts at arranging for transportation to away games--especially the longer trips like Colgate and Davidson. This post is designed to simply get a sense of possible interest. My preliminary efforts indicate that the round trip cost of a quality bus to Colgate would be about $80.00 per person (less if more than 40 people sign up). This is assuming that we go up Friday afternoon and return Saturday after the game. Thus, there would be some overnight expense. In addition to your personal interest, I would like your sense of the level of interest in the Georgetown community for such a trip. Thank you.

Will booze be provided on the trip?

No specific arrangements have been made, but I would expect that a variety of refreshments will find their way onto the bus. The $80.00 number includes only transportation, accommodations for the driver and tip. If 50 or more sign up, the cost can drop to near $70.00.

If Hoya Blue can ramp up their efforts this year, (which shouldn't be too hard to do, considering the bar has been lowered during the last couple of years), I think you could generate some student interest in a bus trip. Maybe not for an overnight (which Colgate might likely be), but for one of the shorter trips on the schedule -- not knowing the schedule off the top of my head, a Lehigh or Lafayette game, depending on our road games for the year.
Also, if AD/Sports promotions could subsidize a little of the bus cost, student interest would likely rise.

The five road games next year:
Duquesne (four hours from DC) Colgate (8 hours, probably an overnighter) Monmouth (4 hours) Fordham (4 hours--this should definitely be considered) Davidson (7 hours, again, not sure if that's too long for enough interest).

Many thanks to all of you for the information. I agree with your assessment of the travel times. My thoughts were that the four hour trips could be made as day trips and would cost a lot less. Even to the Bronx for Fordham (probably a bit more than 4 hours), we could leave at about 7:30 on Saturday and get back that night. A long day, but it should be a lot of fun.
Please talk this idea up among your Georgetown football friends and I welcome the feedback. If I decide to get serious about it, I would probably work through the Gridiron Club. Thanks again.

If you do not get the bus trip going you should consider taking the train up here for the Fordham game...the 1/2/3/9 subway to times square...the S to Grand Central and then metro north to Fordham Road.
I think a non-Acela/Metroliner train from DC to NY is around $50 each way, subway will end up costing you $3, and the trip from Grand Central is about $4 each way.
The bus is a bit cheaper and likely more convienent, but the train is a viable option (and you can booze all you'd like to). It would be great to have a big Georgetown showing in the Bronx this year.

Sounds like you are a NY alum. Thanks for the advice...I am quite familiar with Amtrak to NY--lots of family in the city. I think you may have underestimated the train fare, but if the bus thing doesn't happen, I'm definitely considering exactly what you suggest. Is there a large Hoya network in NY? As I explore all this, I will update on this board. Thanks again.

Another option is the Washington Deluxe bus, which runs $30 round trip from Farragut Square to Penn Station, followed by the same subway/metro north combo.

I'm a new fan as well...from the Boston area. Any other New Engand fans and parents making the trip south for the games next few seasons? I'm looking forward to seeing the team in action. Any word if the new stadium will be ready for the '05 season?

I have learned that similar bus trips have been arranged for other sports at Georgetown. I am pursuing it via the Gridiron Club, so keep an eye out on this board for more information. Thanks.
