We are at a moment in time which is clearly outside of my understanding of the space and time continuum. Aided by the entire Big East loading up on early season patsies, the Hoyas Sagarin strength of schedule (162) currently ranks second to only Providence (131) in the league. Meanwhile Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Notre Dame and Villanova have so far played schedules among the weakest dozen or so in the country.

Um, when you look at the big picture, the schedule still sdtinks.
ESPN likes the big picture.
Take away Illonois and we're at the bottom again.
Sorry to be such a downer...

No, Chris is right. All Big East schedules suck....our's is better than most this year. Illinois, Davidson, Temple even Oral Roberts have all given us a legit schedule. Sure I'd like to see us put more teams on the list, but gone are the days we played norfolk st, howard, coastal carolina, morgan st and southern in one season.
We don't need to go as far as Temple, as long as we keep scheduling a healthy combination of smaller conference gamers (like Temple, Oral Roberts & Davidson), big conference dogs (Penn St.), local challengers (Howard) and a couple marque matchups (Illinois)...sure we could notch this up a tad.
Things I would like to see us do: 1) Add another marque matchup from a power conference (MD or something from the SEC - Arkansa?)... 2) Replace citadel with something more local (like American or GMU)... 3) Add an Ivy league matchup or another jesuit school
However, I don't think our schedule is that bad, especially when you compare it to the other Big East teams like Pitt: Howard, Robert Morris, Loyola MD, St. Francis, Duquesne, Memphis, Penn St., Coppin St., Richmond

I would add my vote for another Jesuit school.
Holy Cross or St. Joseph's might be good early season match-ups year-in and year-out.

11 non-conf. games? Here's a few to start:
Three local (GW, Howard, Navy) Two regional (Virginia, @penn State) Two PL/Ivy (Holy Cross, Penn) Two out west (@san Jose, @san Francisco) Two national (Michigan, @illinois)

That kind of schedule would be reasonable, would help the team grow, and would be far more interesting for our fans.

Gary Williams whined about playing local teams before he even got beat by GW in the BB&T so I don't see that game happening.
They do play AU tonight I think.

It's almost impossible to understand what you're saying and sometimes you make some good points.

Gary Williams whined about playing local teams before he even got beat by GW in the BB&T so I don't see that game happening. They do play AU tonight I think. Those games interfere with local recruiting...Carolina wouldn't play UNC Charlotte for years...N.C. State wouldn't play ECU in football for a lengthy time period also... Up until the late 70s - early 80s, Duke was probably the 5th or 6th best team in the state of North Carolina...Duke didn't become great until NC State's and Carolina's rosters became stacked with Blue-Chippers...

Richmond beat Kansas @ Kansas last season...

;D ;D ;D Considering the crowd you were hanging out with last Saturday, I'm sure the buzz for such a matchup was all around you. A game pitting Logo Jack versus Logo "Spike" of Live Jack versus Live "Q" East v. West. Old GU v. Young GU. In return for Hoyas playing at K2, I'll bet the Zags (who will probably be coming out for a renewed series of home-and-homes against St. Joe's and playing on Hawk Hill) would even be willing to play at McDonough. Television rights could earn the $$$ ... and maybe alumni tuning in and seeing a "Sea of Gray" crowd of students would be inspired to start pumping in some other $$$ to get a renovated/expanded McD2 on the Hilltop. Considering the Bay Area alumni population, DFW's suggestions for some games out West is a good idea too. Trying to build up on some local rivalries is also sensible.
