The cnnsi.com college basketball page has a heading "former, current Georgetown player arrested." The title of the article refers to the players as "Hoyas." And then, of course, the text makes clear that they are really talking about Georgetown College. I am sure they will fix this promptly, but it is ridiculously irresponsible that such an egregious error was made in the first place. sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/basketball/ncaa/12/14/bc.bkc.playerarrested.ap/index.html

Apparently the answer to your question, Johnnytwotimes, is: egregiously irresponsible.

They've changed the text to delete "Hoyas" but it's still a top story on their college basketball front page. I'd include a link but they really don't deserve traffic.
For of ESPN's faults, I frequently go months at a time without remembering that SI still exists.

That is disgusting. We are one of the only programs that can pride ourselves of having good honest kids that always stay out of trouble, and now this. I feel sick.
On Edit: Do you think the University can file some sort of legal action or something like that? SI should have to pay for this.

On Edit: Do you think the University can file some sort of legal action or something like that? SI should have to pay for this. It's a typo, nothing more. There is nothing in the text of the article that falsely accuses or is libelous towards Georgetown University or names a student of the University.

I still see "Hoyas" in the headline of the article. And the link on the College BB page should read "Georgetown College" not just "Georgetown." That's like writing that Notre Dame atheletes were arrested, but failing to mention it was "The College of Notre Dame of Maryland."

This is so ridiculous, it still says Hoyas in the story headline. Would this really be a top story if the school's name wasn't Georgetown? I seriously doubt it. People are only clicking on it because they think it is about the real Georgetown and Im sure many people think it is, not everyone knows that we are Georgetown University, and the use of Hoyas instead of Tigers makes it even more confusing.
This is incredibly irresponsible, is there anyone we can write to with complaints?

Is this a typo on SI's part or on the AP's part, since that's who wrote the actual story? I guess I would be even more disappointed if it was the AP's fault. Come on!!

It's completely on SI. The AP article says nothing about GU or the Hoyas. It was a lazy hack who attributed something from the AP wire to GU incorrectly.

SI.com is run through CNN. I submitted an email comment on the article pointing out the mistake. Haven't been able to track down a phone number yet.

It's fixed now, and clearly says Georgetown College. However, the use of Hoyas in the original headline was really stupid.

I agree with everyone's comments... the media here is in such a frenzy over the Kentucky basketball team, or lack thereof, that obviously accuracy is not one of their strong suits right now.
