I haven't been able to get to Washington for the first 2 games, but it has been nice to hear how great our student section has been. But when I saw this clip on youtube I realized just how awesome it is - to get this kind of energy and noise for a non-BE, non-ranked opponent is pretty incredible and is probably better than 99% of student sections on their best day. Great job students - time for alumni and fans to step up their game.

That's a really cool clip.
If non-students could simply try a little harder to wear something GRAY, stand up once in a while, and MAKE SOME NOISE, we could really get that place rocking!

Well, non-students don't have the benefit of preparation and meetings to orchestrate such dressing specifics. Perhaps there is a way to promote this to the non-student ticket buyers.

Perhaps there is a way to promote this to the non-student ticket buyers. promo/ why just step outside to the Verizon Center concourse on any gameday and you can buy your very own WAG shirt for just $15! Can't get it at the bookstore, and it makes a great gift for the holidays as well!/promo Plus 007 might fight you if don't buy one

This really is an outstanding clip. Last year, it took until conference play for the students to get really noisy.
On edit: I'll try to put this diplomatically, but the promotion for folks who wear blue should be, "Get a clue. Don't wear blue." Your team wears gray. Virtually every student in the building is wearing gray.

Wear anything gray, it doesnt even have to be a We Are Georgetown shirt. Of course there should be more promotion of this concept on stuff like the jumbotron, the tickets and so on saying something like "Wear Gray to the Game!" However, its a pretty basic concept and you would think people would catch on a little quicker after looking at the students.

I totally agree with the original post. Granted, the alums and general audience have already made a lot of progress in terms of contributing to the atmosphere of the game compared to a few years ago, more can still be done. The student section is ridiculous in number and was very loud for the first two games, but can still improve in coordinated cheers and volume, particularly after our own missed shots and turnovers. We always seem to be very loud after a made basket or nice defensive play, but to be a truly great crowd you have to be loud on EVERY possession.
Also, on a side-note, and obviously this is directed to no one in particular here, but I really wish people who don't have any intention of standing at any point in the game wouldn't purchase tickets that are located right behind the band. I'm not going to sit down to get a view of nothing except large instruments because they want to be lazy. They should sack up, get on their feet and stop complaining that I'm blocking their view.

This doesnt come across in the video but the whole wrist band thing has definitely helped get people there before the games start. at the michigan game i left at 430 (three hours before tip off). i was not first in line and when they opened the gates there was a stampede of hundreds of students rush to the seats. this is completely different than last year. i remember going to (i think) the marquette game which was on a saturday. i arrive an hour and a half early and was in the same seats that i had to fight for this year (for a game against michigan on a thursday night no less)

Now the only test will be is how will they react to a loss? Hopefully well (hell we managed to get people to come to football games, even if they mostly left after halftime)

There is definitely more urgency to get to games early now from what I can tell as the number of students allowed into the lower bowl is limited. In previous years people always cheated the system by bringing other student's tickets out for their friends, the wristbands definitely make cheating the system harder and people make sure to get there early or else they will end up in the upper deck. But it's pretty cool being able to look up at the 400 level and actually see another student section up there. I think this system is a major improvement over years past.

I've been jealous looking at the student section from the young alum. I sort of wish every young alum section had the expectation of standing. My section stood the whole first half except for 5-6 alums from about 5 years ago. And then at half time, no one got the energy back. I was kind of frustrated, but you'd think that if you still qualify as a "young" alum, your spry young legs could keep you up.

I know my part of Young Alum Section 104 stands the whole time, but we are also practically in the student section, which requires you to stand in order to see. I don't plan on using my seat all year though, possibly during some half time I'll rest my legs.

Before the year began I would have said no but these kids might just suprise me.

The fear of sitting in the 400's is an amazing motivator.

If city-wide NBA teams can pull off a monochromatic scheme, why can't a tight-knit community like Georgetown do it? GREY-OUT THE BOOTH!! LETS SHOW THE NATION WE'RE THE #1 FANS!!!

And even fans who need to come in their work clothes, there's no reason you can't wear grey under a work shirt. But if for some reason that won't work, at least wear a white work shirt. White in a sea of grey is alright. As of now, we have fans in red, green, purple. It's nice that this is one of our current concerns, but after Michigan, I'm feeling pretty good about everything else we have going on.
