So I did a little research. Luckily, ESPN.com now provides the average height and weight of the NBA teams: Georgetown is bigger (in terms of average height) than: Georgetown is bigger (in terms of average weight) than: - Detroit
- New Orleans
- Memphis
- Toronto
What do you all think - would our boys stand a chance against any pro team? Maybe not the guys we're bringing to the table this year as they haven't gotten in their grove yet. But what about last year's team that was playing in March? Data: Team Inches Pounds New York 79 233 New Jersey 79 230 Los Angeles Lakers 79 229 Miami 79 229 Minnesota 79 229 Washington 79 228 Indiana 79 227 Utah 79 226 Orlando Magic 79 224 Boston 78 224 Charlotte 78 224 Milwaukee 78 224 Dallas 79 223 Seattle 79 223 Cleveland 79 220 Philadelphia 79 220 Portland 79 220 Phoenix 78 220 Golden State Warriors 79 219 San Antonio 79 219 Sacramento 79 219 Denver 78 219 Houston 78 219 Atlanta 77 219 Chicago 78 218 Los Angeles Clippers78 218 Georgetown 78 217 Detroit 79 216 New Orleans 79 216 Memphis 78 214 Toronto 78 214

I'm going to go ahead and say that last year's Georgetown squad would lose by approx. 25 to the worst team in the NBA. I don't mean to take anything away from our squad -- I could not think more highly of them -- but the difference between the NBA and college is huge. See Jeff Green's transition.

Give Thomas a few more years with the Knicks and we may be able to pull one out.

Knicks are 1-1 and on the upswing.
To answer the original question.... with all due respect, there is a 0% chance we could beat any NBA team, last years team or this years team. The level of play in the NBA is WAY ahead of the level of play in college.
Atlanta is probably so small because 3/4 of their team plays the same position (SF) and because they keep picking guys who are 6'8 or 6'9 and trying to make them full time centers (Williams, Horford).

Everybody was all Big East, All ACC, All SEC, etc. in college. We'd get thumped. I don't know what would be worse--us struggling to make any 3's from the NBA distance or them slaughtering us via the college line. It would be like Princeton taking on G'town/UCLA and desprately trying to keep pace.

Still no chance...there's this discussion almost EVERY year by someone. Last year someone wrote an article about whether the Florida team could hang and the answer was a resounding no. Even an All American team would get beat down, b/c everyone in the NBA was "All Something".

Any NBA team would consistently beat college kids, but I do give college kids a shooters chance of winning a game.
The college kids with Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley and a few others beat the '92 Olympic team while they were training for the upcoming games.
But the pros came back the next game and beat them by 30+.
