snipet from rivals:
Hairston has been to Georgetown multiple times for games and was on the Big East campus two weeks ago when the Hoyas officially tipped off the season.
"Midnight Madness was crazy. I got to meet Greg Monroe and he was a real great guy," Hairston said. "Coach (John) Thompson and all of his coaching staff are all really great people. I got to meet Roy Hibbert. I've met him before but it was good to see and talk to him again."
The two Final Four teams are in the mix with Hairston heading into his sophomore year.
"Right now Georgetown and Ohio State are the ones that I'm really considering choosing," Hairston said. "They are both great schools and have great coaches. Coach (Thad) Matta and coach Thompson are really great people. Both of those schools are really high on my list right now."

I like how highly he speaks of Monroe. Getting a great person/player like Monroe will really pay big dividends in future recruiting.
Hairston and his partner Thorton would be great pick-ups for the '10 class.

like I've said before good players generally like to play with other good players. Plus, most of these kids know each other from summer ball.

I just like the type of kid GU is recruiting, Monroe, Lil Thompson, Clark, Riley... These kids are all great student athletes.
Funny, OSU already has 2010 commits from players like Hairston.

Matta is ridiculous. Its one thing to gte commits from sophs or frosh who are in state. Even if the player doesn't pan out you keep a strong hold over your backyard in terms of recruiting. But getting or trying to get commitments from a bunch of underclassmen, a few of whom are not from Ohio is ridiculous IMO.
Matta is a good coach but anyone who caught that WSJ article and read how much money the OSU athletic department generates suggests to me that Matta wouldn't be half the recruiter he is if he didn not have the huge finances that allowed him to spend any amount he wanted to fly scores of players in and out of Columbus.

You'd think one visit to Port Columbus International (they must have one flight to Canada) would be enough to turn off most recruits.

My sister's husband is from Columbus. She hates visiting there because she feels its a dump; a total wasteland.

Like any paid job, if its location is undesirable, the employer just has to add extra insentives.

Don't hate on the Midwest. If you can't have a good time in Milwaukee or Cleveland, you're the problem. Motown is also slowly getting itself together.
Aside from Cleveland, the rest of ohio blows.

Hairston attends Courtland HS, which is not far from me, and has been a hot topic of conversation among basketball enthusiasts I know. One of them coached Harvey Thomas @ James Monroe HS here before HT began his basketball “odyssey”. In comparing them he has some glowing comments about Josh: says he is a much better player than HT at this stage. What really resonated for me was his remark that Hairston is a bright kid who has his head screwed on straight, with a strong, supportive family around him. He emphasized what he sees as Josh’s high basketball I.Q. – says the kid really gets it, i.e. he doesn’t have to be repeatedly told what to do on the floor and improvises appropriately when a game situation requires an adjustment. Calls him a very good inside/outside forward with sound fundamentals and ball handling skills. Though I know there are no guarantees, everyone in the area I’ve spoken with says Hairston's extremely high on Georgetown and that he’s a Hoya lock, if we still want him when the time comes.

So when did the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul get kicked out of the Midwest? The Cities are the most underatted place in the US IMO, and they definately kick Columbus's ass in all categories Only minus has to be the inhuman temperatures
