Both are scheduled for the same day Nov. 10.
Football starts at 12:30 Basketball at 12:00
I really think the athletic dept. should try to make a time change - since it is probably very hard to do with Verizon - is there anyway to move the football game back. What is the latest that we could start a football game (2pm looks to be the latest home start this season).
If you move the Football game to 3 -- hoyablue can try to promote a double header deal so everyone wins.
The football team deserves the support - especially the seniors.

I really wish they would move back the football game cause honestly it's not even a close choice as to which game they're going to right now.

Bummer that both are at the same time.
We'll be off daylight savings time by then (changes on Nov. 4 this year), don't know how late they could push the game back and still play in daylight.

The times should absolutely be changed if at all possible. Not the first time two big games have conflicted either -- I think a big lax game (UMD?) and the GU-Syracuse game were scheduled at the same time last year.
In a thread on the Georgetown Sports board, DFW wrote "Rooting is not a zero sum game. Most basketball fans don't understand this, but it is possible to root for more than one Georgetown team." Of course, if important games for two different programs are scheduled on top of each other, rooting (at least rooting in person) IS a zero sum game. And this is a big senior day for the football squad -- see LBPop's comments over on the football board.
EDIT: What is the current lighting situation at the MSF? If at all possible, why not make Senior Day a night game after everyone is good and worked up from the basketball opener?

There are no real lighting options on the MSF, so playing a night game would be impossible.

There are no real lighting options on the MSF, so playing a night game would be impossible. Totally and utterly impossible. I honestly don't think we can push the football game back even an hour. A 1:30 p.m. game that goes to overtime would finish in darkness. That would not be good. And lets not kid ourselves into thinking we could change a game time at Verizon. The Caps play host to the Tampa Lightning at 7, so its not like we could have scheduled basketball at a different time. And I think its a bit much to ask JT III not to schedule a game at all because football plays. Plus, football was scheduled so long ago, they couldn't have known about basketball. So, sadly, I think this is basically an unfortunate coincidence. I don't think anyone is to blame.

I thought maybe we used portable lights -- guess that's one reason the gridders (or anyone else for that matter, I suppose) don't practice in the evening.

I thought maybe we used portable lights -- guess that's one reason the gridders (or anyone else for that matter, I suppose) don't practice in the evening. We do but they are unsuitable for an actual game, they can maybe illuminate 40% of the field at a time, and the stands would be in darkness. Speaking of lights, I went to a highschool that has never played a night football game due to similar light restrictions that Georgetown has. As a result, the competition on Saturday afternoon with college football and the poor play on the field really prevented any kind of real fanbase from emerging. The inability to play night games seriously hampers football programs

Permanent lights were approved by the ANC for the MSF, it's just a question of funding and installation. And I would be all for 2-3 night games a year once they're in place.
Getting a marquee in front of the building might be tougher. In 2004, the ANC wrotew, in part, "BE IT RESOLVED, ANC 2E vigorously opposes the proposal by the President and Directors of Georgetown College for the lighted Marquee for the Performing Arts Center in light of its utter disregard for the historic sensibility, charm and architectural style of the Georgetown University campus enjoyed by students, faculty, staff, and the community at large. "
As opposed to, say, the charm of New South.

As I mentioned in LBPop's thread, I really hope that the start time of the football game can be pushed back an hour or two. Unfortunately, with the daylight savings time change and the fact that we don't have useable lights for games, darkness will probably preclude this.
I really hope the permanent lights for the MSF go up in the next year or so, it would be great to have a few night games, not just for football, but also men and women's lacrosse and soccer. I think it could really boost fan support. Also, think about the student-athletes who have to miss class to go to their game in the middle of the day. If they could have a few night games, that wouldn't be as much of a problem.

And now I see there is a complete discussion of lighting over on the football board. Whoops.
The football game starts 30 minutes after the the basketball game and should last longer. Students should at least try to make it back for the end of the game (do the MCI buses still pick up/drop off right by the field?).

Yeah but it's the last football game. Senior Day. You don't catch Senior Day. You go to Senior Day. That's where the problem is.

There are no longer buses to the MCI center. We take the metro to the verizon center now. If it weren't for daylight savings time we'd be able to move the football game back so that the people who go to the basketball game can see the majority of the game. Tis sad.

There are buses to and from the metro station though, and they drop us off right at the field.

Yeah but it's the last football game. Senior Day. You don't catch Senior Day. You go to Senior Day. That's where the problem is. Well said. Sadly it appears inevitable that this year's seniors will make their last appearance before a sparce crowd--most of whom will be family or close friends of players. Nonetheless, they will make the same effort as if the stands are full (just like they always do) and maybe...just maybe they will have one last opportunity to sing to the crowd. If you are among the folks at the basketball game, when you return to campus and you see a bunch of non-scholarship Georgetown seniors walking around with ice packs or lots of tape, I know that they would appreciate a simple but sincere thank you.
