Final Four Banner

My brother just moved back into DC and got his season tickets back. He wanted to know when they will officially raise the 2007 Final Four banner in McDonough, the home opener or during Midnight Madness. Anyone with any info on when this will actually happen? Much appreciated.

Good question. They should do it twice: first at Midnight Madness at McDonough and second at the BIG EAST home opener at Verizon (instead of doing it in front of 2000 people attending one of the five Hoyas-Nobody State games at Verizon).

Based on precident, I doubt Verizon will put one up. I mean Final Fours come and go, but only one team a year can lay claim to "WNBA Attendance Leaders."

Hey the Mystics deserved that banner. I heard they got 50 people for one game.

So the banner would go up during the first game at the Verizon or at the first BE game? Do we have an OOC Verizon game prior to the BE opener this year?

Highly likely.

I think it would be a shame if they didn't at least raise the banner in the Verizon Center, even if they don't keep it there. McDonough's on campus, sure, but I think we finally proved last year that Verizon is the Hoyas' home (at least until someone at the AD reads a facilities thread).

I doubt there will be anything in Verizon, at least not permanently. The other Final Fours aren't up there.

But I was wondering what precisely the banner situation in McDonough will be. Seeing as in every previous Final Four appearance we advanced to the national final, there is no clear precedent. Right now there are three banners on the back wall of McDonough: one says "National Champions"; the other two are a little smaller and say "National Finalist". Will this one say "National Semi-Finalist" or "Final Four"? And will it be smaller than the 'Finalist’ banners? Will there even be one on the back wall?

I assume they will add a '2007' banner to the collection over the bleachers and that that one will definitely say "Final Four".

And for you grammar sticklers out there, is it "Semi-Finalist" or "Semi-Finalists"??

Actually, I believe the banner should read Eastern Regional Champion. It will likely have the Final Four logo on it as well.

Shouldn't there also be a BE Championship banner as well?

since the championship banner was put up in the phone booth well after the fact, when we had also attained multiple final four appearances, why would they put one up now anyway?

i've always wondered why that one was missing. seems unfair to that team not to have it up there. maybe they were waiting for another final four so that they could have symmetry around the championship banner...

Agreed on all players--you are talking about an additional ten jerseys and I think the alumni and/or their families would appreciate that.

As to Pete Michell, I ran into a couple of people at the banquet that were convinced he played in the ABA, but the web sites which chronicle the New Orleans Buccaneers have no record of him playing there.
