"I don't want any moral victories," said Georgetown forward and Big East scoring leader Brandon Bowman, who had a season-low seven points on 2-for-8 shooting. "The game is 40 minutes. They won by 15 points. It doesn't matter how you start, it matters how you finish. What we did in the first half is irrelevant, because we lost the game."
Now, I would rather see Brandon's game do the talking, but this is the kind of attitude I like to see. Last year's team too often justified their losses, and I like to see that an upperclassman leader like Bowman is not going to take any loss, even if it's to the #1 team in the country, lightly. Obviously, many on this board were extremely disappointed with Brandon's play tonight, and while I was expecting more after the fiery performance against Penn State, we're going to have to understand that Brandon will have some off nights.
Earlier in the evening I was discussing this with Gammo and some others, and we concluded, that to date, Brandon has proven to be an extremely athletic player with the ability to explode, but does not appear to be a Reggie Williams or even a Shenard Long or Victor Page, in terms of being able to count on him for around 20 points, one way or another, every single game. What this does not mean, however, is that BB cannot develop into this. It is still very early in his junior season, and with a new coach and a new system, Brandon will also go through a learning process - we only hope that his will not require another few years to peak.
I have confidence that based on the team concept that JT III is instilling in this team, Brandon will learn how to make the most of his talent, while still working within this system. The one thing that we have not yet seen from Brandon this year, which we saw multiple times over the last two seasons, is him forcing himself into the game. Of course, there are remnants of this "old Brandon" behavior, but he only took 8 shots tonight, and he is adjusting to a new type of offense. I think that he has shown some restraint, indicative that he will improve, and hopefully understand that restrain doesn't mean passivity - we still need him to put his STAMP on every single game.
GO HOYAS!!!
