"Eighteen NBA scouts were credentialed for the game, including former Washington Bullets forward Harvey Grant, who was working for the Wizards."
Wow, I dont know how many usually attend games, but that sounds like a lot. Stay away from Jeff you fiends!!!!!!!

a little bit of praise for JG: "MICHAEL SMITH REDUX?: PC fans had best set down their coffee before reading on. Last fall, Friar assistant coach Phil Seymore thought he had a bead on two sleeper recruits in the D.C. area. Maryland eventually discovered James Gist and offered a scholarship, but it was a mild shock when Georgetown snagged forward Jeff Green out of Hyattsville, Md. Well, this Mr. Green can play. Green recently went for 18 points-10 rebounds-6 blocks against Penn State and is regarded as a rebounding fool. That's just what the Friars need right now." www.projo.com/college/content/projo_20041210_10km.23c695.html

And 007 and his cronies quelled the "overrated" chants in fear that they were tempting the gods. Imagine if they would have encouraged such nonsensical chanting. I for one now blame this loss on you 007, you and your stupid blue haired loser friends in the front row. We were in their heads before the game even started. Shame on you, Shame (Did a visiting player actually comment on how we had a home court advantage?)

It was like 20 idiots chanting the overrated cheer, who we promptly proceeded to shut up, I certainly didn't expect it to make any articles.
The people who started chanting that are really not the brightest bunch. You don't chant that to the #1 team in the country before the game has even started, you are just asking for trouble.

hahahaha, thanks binx, but the way I look at it is if we had continued the cheer we would have promptly received a wake-like thumping. If you have to do that sort of thing, save it for when the win is a lock in the final minutes or seconds.

I, for one, was for the "overrated" chant before the game, although I did not participate. The only time during the game that you should do it is when your win is firmly intact. However, I don't mind doing it before the game to get into their heads a little bit. According to the article, even a small group of chanters accomplished this.
And yes, BOOOO to the cheer snobs. We should be encouraging cheers, not stopping them. Unless the cheer is absolutely retarded, which I am sure 007 will counter is the case here, we should do our best to promote every cheer and chant possible. I say, anytime you can get at least 50 people chanting the same thing in unison in our student section, it's an accomplishment.

Check out the articles from Illinois papers on the front page of hoyasaxa.com. We were really ridiculed for starting those chants. The big story in those rags was the great turnout of the Orange Krush, not that our team gave them some trouble in the first half. Their school newspaper was especially harsh on our arena and crowd, insinuating that we were dumb for starting the overrated chant because it started the big IL rally. They also thought the "god is on our side" sign was stupid/inappropriate.
Some IL players felt like they had a type of home-court advantage.
I have a new "most hated" team. I want hoyablue to get about 50 tickets for the game in Chicago (?) next year so that all the hard cores can get over there and cheer our more mature team on to victory.

Chants of overrated are expected when a highly ranked team plays on the road against an unranked team. The paper should have been more offended by I-L-I.....I-N-I chants. I know someone mentioned this in another post, but I HAD to write about this. Someone else had it I-L-L.....I-N-I, but I don't think it went like that. Either way, it had to be one of the most ridiculous fan celebrations I have seen. For any wrestling fans, N.C.State fans actually do the symbol the N.W.O Wolfpack in WCW used to do. That's the DUMBEST thing I've ever seen. N.C.State fans steal wrestling gimmicks as celebrations?? I hope those Illini chants were not able to be heard on the television broadcast.
I wasn't surprised to see a lot of Illini fans at the MCI Center. They are ranked number 1, all the bandwagon fans came out. This happens in all sports.
