Keep it up Joe Hoya and 007 - I'm definitely enjoying this battle for the title of the most self-righteous board member...

Yes, that's right, you've figured me out. I live only to annoy people. It's impossible that someone (a student, no less) could actually believe that the MCI people are not trained by the mafia solely to bring frustration and anger to the fans. It's impossible that someone could actually think that the students could do a better job of being civil while they watch the games. It's impossible that someone could actaully still be a fan of a team but expect its fans to behave appropriately. It's absolutely, 150% im-freaking-possible that another student could actually see where the MCI people are coming from, and suggest that they aren't wrong in some of the things they do. But I forgot that you're the world's number one Hoya fan. You're on a "whole other level", as you've said. Maybe on your level, the students can do no wrong, even if they are perceived to potentially pose a risk to the players on the court. Maybe on your level it's acceptable for 25 people to cram into a row meant for 15. Maybe it's alright for people to constantly be walking in and out of the rows, inconveniencing those of us who get there an hour before the game to watch basketball, not drink beer or have social hour. I guess it wouldn't matter to you, though, since only people who wear wigs and makeup are big enough fans to sit in the front row, and those who don't are probably sent packing before they get to bother you. I guess it would be okay up there on your level for people to get drunk and beligerent with their fellow students, just because someone says "Hey, do you mind just staying in your seat so I can watch the game?" They might as well take out the couch and replace it with a keg. But I digress; those are merely observations from over two seasons worth of trips to the MCI Center. Which is at least a full season more than you've had up on your level. I'm sorry that I've made you come down to my level, the level of a mere die-hard. It won't happen again. Whoa I don't think he was complaining about how they were keeping the amount of people in rows honest, that is a good thing, the complaints came from the black thing that made it impossible to celebrate in a wild, college basketball-esque manner. As for the beer drinking thing, I can't tell if you are saying that 007 is a boozer or that he hates boozers. I am confused (edited because i realized it was the right thread)

Neither. I'm the one that doesn't like the "boozers".
I don't mind people enjoying a beer and a basketball game. I DO mind people enjoying a beer, a beer, three more beers, and elbowing people as they climb over others to get to a seat they aren't going to sit in for more than a minute, all the while asking people "What just happened?" since they aren't watching the game.
When you say some of the stuff that has been said about the MCI Center and its staff, you can't just say "I wanna jump around like a maniac and they won't let me so they suck". Either you oppose the way they do business, or you ignore it and watch the games. I choose to ignore it and watch the games.
I'm not trying to be self-righteous or attack 007 as being a bad fan or anything - I just didn't like being attacked because I disagree with popular sentiment on (among other things) the way the MCI staff handles games.

I agree with you, the drunk kids are almost intolerable. (most of them look underage to me which i think is funny) And i think that the MCI staff should regulate, at least a little bit, how many people can be in each row. They did this last night for the first 5 or so. The MCI staff goes on a little bit of a power trip every game with that damn rope thing. They put it iup in the middle of the penn state game i think because we were jumping around too much, which i think is nit picky.

man - first of all you guys are acting like totally toolboxes - i mean hoopsmccan is right - talk about unwarranted self-righteousness - it is ridiculous
second of all, since when is it not cool to get boozed up and cheer loud and long for the hoyas at the games...i mean, coming from a boozer here, i wasn't the one that pushed and elbowed and was confrontational with fellow students - i just got boozed up and had a good time...is that so bad?
MCI staff IS intolerable though Joe - and for you to say anything else means you are clearly not informed or too much of a %$@* to ever challenge their pseudo-authority - it is a bunch of idiots on a power trip over there - they do NOT have the best interests of the students in mind, so if that is what you are implying please.
So let's keep the boozer-bashing to a minimum - would you rather they not come out and support the team? You can still be a civil boozer - and only pick fights with opposing fans, not your own brethren - i am now 25 and 3 years removed from Gtown, but i hope that GTOWN hasn't gotten soft on me - i mean i know they closed down Champs and all but has the entire GTOWN population become allergic to alcohol? alcohol is FUN when you are in college - what the hell is going on here!?!!? It's like its illegal or something...umm, yeah.

I never said they had the students interests in mind. Their job is to keep the players and coaches interests in mind. And in light of recent events, that means clamping down on the fans.
I'm not afraid to challenge anyone's authority if isn't legitimate. I just see things differently than the rest of you I guess. I don't see the MCI staff as the problem, I see some of my fellow students and their actions as more of a problem than the ushers and security.
If that means I'm self-righteous, then fine. I just don't feel as if the students are beyond reproach. It's possible that others have had unfair hassles from ushers, but I haven't seen any. I don't think arena ushers are on a power trip - they are ushers at a freaking arena for God's sake. Do you think they plan to use it as a stepping stone to becoming a general or something? They essentially have no power, so they can't be on a trip.
If you wanna keep bashing me for my opinions, you should probably start another thread. I kinda feel bad that we hijacked this one.

Joe, I specifically tried to explain that I dont mind them limiting the number of people in a row. I agree with you that it is horrible when some random people who usually happen to be drunk a-holes shove themselves into one of the first few rows and make the game difficult to watch and aren't even paying attention themselves.
I have a problem with them shoving some rope in our face and saying that we cant jump around and go crazy after a made basket. I have no problem with them protecting the players and all that as you say, but they could have that rope be at the very edge of the concrete area right before the wood floor starts. The way they did it last night was complete BS and if you had heard what that women who was in charge last night was saying to me you might have a different opinion on the MCI Staff. There is a way to explain things nicely and try to reason with people, and there is a way to cause major tension, insult people and cause fights.

It's like its illegal or something...umm, yeah. Yeah, re-reading my post made me realize that I sounded very-toolshed. What I meant was a bit more complicated than what I wrote. First off, I like to booze just like the rest of them, I plan to have a few in me for UCONN. Now, what I mean by the "younger kids boozing" was that its mostly freshmen who see going to the game as a reason to booze and socialize (kinda like a party) because of the novelty of college and all that blah. I am all for people being drunk and rowdy (see college football games, great times) but when they are constatnly changing rows trying to find someone to talk to and not actually watching the game it gets a bit annoying because you always have to move out of their way and they try to pack 900 people in one row. Example, there was a girl in front of us who was wearing an Illinois scarf because she was from Illinois or some crap like that, so we gave her and it was fun. She shows up about 15 minutes after tipoff and finds a friend in our row and packs in. The usher notices, talks to her and has a little argument with her right next to us, after which she moves one row down in an open seat. Now, She was a fan for both teams and yet I think she watched 5 plays the entire game and literally had her back to the game most of the time, her favorite topic of conversation was not how awesome fellow freshmen Green and Hibbert were or even how awesome Dee Brown was, it was "I didnt even get carded for this beer." So, that is the problem I have, however, the freshmen show up more than any other class so I have to give them props for that.

My brother-in-law just informed me that his very good friend of some 30 years played on the Illinois team against (our friend) Jim Brown in MSG when Illinois edged the Hoyas in a thriller-and I believe it was the game when Brownie set the Garden assist record! Apparently my BIL and his friend have a rivalry going! Illinois won this time. Maybe we can do the favor later on.
