jeff green was clearly the best hoya on the court. that post move on augustine in the 2nd half was something i haven't seen a hoya do in years. i'd love to see him in the post more.
darrell owens mystifies me. i don't see how he gets 5 minutes on the floor. can he please play one solid game just one time in his career and not disappear? jeez.
i thought the game was entertaining. the hoyas showed good execution but couldn't sustain it.
the real season begins jan 5th at pitt. let's see how this finishes the rest of the non-conf and then get ready for be play.

Looks like the Hoyas have the real deal in Green. Alas, this is a young team with three freshman slated to log big minutes in order to keep this team competitive. As Al McGuire said ,the best thing about a freshman is that he becomes a sophomore. Illinois made Wake look like a 1AA school, so hold your head up Hoyas. If the frosh are playing like sophomores at the end of the season, the NIT will be fun.

POG-Green
runnerup-Ross
SOG-Owens
runnerup-Bowman. Bowman's better than that and took the wrong time to have a down game.
First ten minutes was pretty good for the Hoyas but the next 20 minutes was dreadful. Pretty much as I expected. But if someone had told me that Bowman would have put up such small numbers I would have predicted that the results would have been much worse. Good learning experience.
If Green does not win rookie of the week an investigation must follow.

player of the game goes to green...his second foul was the beginning of the end...man his first foul was such a mistake! really came back to haunt the team
stinker of the game goes to bowman for not playing aggresively...i should try and take a play out or ramell's book and go to the hoop...i wish he would have done that

Also, Green and Wallace are now officially my heroes, Neither should ever leave the game unless in foul trouble.

greeen was great still needs to work on footwork when gets the ball down low he hesitates.. but we were doing ok till he went out i think with 11.18 to go in the first half and the onslought began but we hung tough and dinot die .. brandon did disappear.. wallac was calm at point... and we need to let ross go to the hoop he needs to get more time and into the flow before the big east.. we misse a few bunnies and they upped the pressure and it took its toll but we will get bettter and jeff should certainly be rookie of week and year.. go hoyas.. ps rudy gay dinot look so good and i think uconn did lose to umass tonite.. bad for big east but yeah..... a guy in front of me who was illinois nut to wake etc said you guys should be proud of great defencse.. only 61 point with aobut four or five minutes to go that dont happen gooood d.. go hoyas

POG: Wallace kept us in the game while it was a game.
SOG: Reed did all the wrong things while he was in there. The real question: why was he in there so much in the second half?

Green better get Rookie of the week...it would be a travishamockery if he didnt!!!! and wallace should make 1st or 2nd team all rookie by the end of the year
Saw the uconn game too....altho Gay struggled a bit....he is electrifying ....i hope these two guys stay all 4 years....it would make an awesome rivalry matchup

POG: Wallace
Obviously could have been Green, but as wallace wasn't in foul trouble, I'll give it to him. They both played well.
SOG: Reed
I want to give it to Owens, he contributed nothing. But he didn't shoot us in the foot either. Reed was the only person out there for a long time (too long) who LOOKED like a freshman (I realize he isn't I'm just characterizing his play).
Other people made mistakes, turnovers, etc. But Reed was in for a while playing like garbage while the rest of the team put in a real effort against a great opponent. Reed was terrible.

Player of the Game: Green (only because of the 3 that he hit towards the end of the 2nd half with time running out on the shot clock) - see the Times article as to why Green is obviously the bright future of the program.
Runners up: Wallace, Ross
Stinker of the Game: Reed - Ray Ray didn't run the offense for longer than 2 seconds after he touched the ball. I understand that he is the fastest guy we have and that he does bring defensive intensity - but he wasn't even doing that well on the defensive side of the court ... so then we got nothing from him other than pointless drives to the basket. He also showed a lack of basketball IQ with a bounce past to the post - something that you're supposed to learn not to do in Junior High. Owens could have gotten this award, but he really is more patient and runs the offense and that's why he doesn't score - because he's passing the ball to the interior and not making ill advised drives to the basket.

Player(s) of the game - definitely our freshman. Wallace, Green, and even Hibb. Green is going to be/already is a stud. The fluidity with which he moves on the floor is something I haven't seen a hoya do in a long long time. Hibb is definitely a project, but I like what I see. He has the potential to be a big time post player. Wallace is equally impressive. We finally have a point that knows how to play point. It doesn't hurt that he can shoot either. Having struggled through the eshrick era, this is the first game I've seen (on tv) coached by JTIII and I'm amazed at the difference. It nice to see an actual offense and defense. With eshrick the fists would go up and all hell would break loose on the floor.

Apparently here no one thought the defense was a problem. Whether or not they should have, none of our guards could stop any of the Illini's perimeter players.
The only one who could do it at points was that Ray had a couple of good possessions.
Folks, hard to give someone POG when they got burned left and right. I'm not saying anyone on the team did better, and frankly I'm very happy with the way the team played, but, man, offense is only 50% folks.
