Two concerns about the Cap One facility last night. 1. The scoreboard had major issues. The game score and the clock were Ok but the scoreboard never showed the shot clock. The screens showing who was on the floor with their points scored and PF had the wrong people for large segments in time and no update on points scored for the people who were on the floor. And the small screen with the team statistics was a joke. If you took the number of 2 pt baskets made times 2 and added the number of 3 pt baskets made times 3 the total was well over the team score and free throws made added to that. 2. On the 100 level there was no draft beer, only cans. And every can was an Anheuser Busch product. Will nothing of these be the case all season? We have some great local breweries that should be available and draft beer tastes much better than cans of beer, and it is much more profitable for the reseller. Uncle Ted tanking Cap One facility since he wants %600 m. from the city to renovate Cap One! Only half kidding!š Is Ted getting a piece of the 13 bucks (!) being charged for an outside ālockerā in the event oneās not-very- large handbag is deemed too big to be screened and allowed inside?

The crowd was outstanding.
LeMoyne was too physically overmatched, particularly on the interior, to make much in the way of judgments, but we worked hard.
Styles and Heath can and will score some points.
Bristol looks like your proverbial āglue guy.ā
Brumbaugh has a nice shot.
Dribble penetration from the point?

So very, very sad. A promising career cut short. Condolences to her loved ones.

I assume the school is still on the hook for the remaining amount of his contract (?).

I'll take the under on Heath and 13 ppg. Heath is easily passed over because he's not been a difference maker in 4 years of college on 3 different teams. It's unlikely he'll all of a sudden be a difference maker in his 5th year of college basketball. Seems like a very good kid and representative of the university, I'm rooting for him, but seems pretty easy to understand why he'd be an afterthought to neutral observers. Remember last year when Heath was granted his eligibility and many here acted as if LeBron was walking though the doors? Hilarious. Three Pinocchios.

I thought Terrell Allen was a good PG for us when given the opportunity. James Akinjo had talent, but was the epitome of selfishness. I prefer āball dominant.ā He led the BE in assists as a frosh.

From the Marquette fan site column posted above:
āIf Jay Heath and Wayne Bristol were game changers, Georgetown wouldnāt have gone 2-18 in the Big East last year. If Supreme Cook was a game changer, even at the level of the MAAC, Fairfield wouldnāt have gone 13-18 overall and finished seventh in that league.
You get the idea.ā
The idea that I āgetā is that this is a rather ridiculous comment intended to answer a point no one is making.

Having been awakened from a slumber of several months by the arrival of an actual roster, it seems clear that this is a de facto 9-man team on game day, certainly in the second halves of BE games. We can hope for someone truly helpful to emerge from the walk-ons (Bacote? Alexander?), but history argues strongly against it. Rebuilding from the depths is not easy, so please takes this as a statement of reality and not a criticism of Coach Cooley.

I'm curious how Celtic fans feel about today's (or I guess technically last night's) trade. I give Memphis an A+. I love Marcus Smart, he can play on my team any time. So I don't know what to think of this deal from Boston's standpoint, even though they are adding two first round picks. I also love Smart, but I donāt believe that they can run the same team back again next year. After the Brogdon deal cratered, they had to do something, and thereās a case to be made that Marcus is not aging well considering his style of play. Much depends, of course, on Porzingisā health, but I think KP and two firsts ( one now traded) for Smart is a win.

Some very good players committing elsewhere. Feels weird with GU still have a few spots still open. I'm not sure that I get this. Are we supposed to be able to take our pick, unobstructed by other schools?

While waiting for our beatdown of UVA tomorrow, let's recognize that Mr. Brown is in the Lacross Hall of Fame as well as Canton. Can you imagine him with a Lacrosse stick in his hands?

The rules are the rules, whether anybody thinks they are "toxic and crazy" or not. All coaches are playing under the same set of rules. Basically, you have to re-recruit your own players and cut those you don't like each season, while then bringing in new guys that you think will help you win. Cooley chose to "re-recruit" Heath, Akok, Mutombo and Bristol. He cut Murray, Spears, Wahab, Riley, Ezewiro, Anglin, Wilson and Bass. He's brought in the guys he's brought in, but what's interesting is those guys aren't very highly ranked. From the transfer portal, they are ranked #63, #87, #231, and unranked: www.on3.com/transfer-portal/top/basketball/2023/That compares to last year's Cooley haul at Providence, that had 3 guys in the top 59 of transfers, 4 of the top 105 and 5 of the top 120: www.on3.com/transfer-portal/top/basketball/2022/Why was Ed Cooley more successful recruiting transfers at Providence than he's been at Georgetown? Cooley was able to capitalize off the buzz from hyped crowds, close game wins, 1st place BE finish & the sweet 16 run in 21-22 season. Check his transfer rankings with Durham & Minaya the year before. Note also that, in the 21-22 season upon which Cooley built, PC did not play UConn at home, or Seton Hall and Creighton away, whereas Nova played a full 20 game conference schedule. Cooley was able to then recruit off of a BE regular season title.

I just need to say this somewhere. Jokic has 12 boards and five assists in the first quarter in Game 1 against the Lakers.

The transfer portal window is closed. So unless Akok entered and it's just not public yet, he should be returning. The portal is always open for graduates to transfer and have immediate eligibility. The question appears to be whether Akok is a graduate. If so, then itās still wide open.

We need something besides cast-off bench players trying to be starters. Well sure. But there's more to it than that. Know the player, know why the player didn't get PT, and decide if there's a fit. There are players buried on the benches of deep teams that would still help here. Hoping, for example, that Styles is one.
